Hens go broody when you don’t want them to… and won’t go broody when you do. 
This was my Toulouse female at 5 days old. Her bill color started to chang to orange at about 3 weeks of age. If Toulouse it will have orange bill, if African or Brn Chinese it will have black bill. You will know in about a month
