Gosling pooping bubbles and something that looks like maybe worms? She is eating, drinking and walking fine. She looks and acts healthy.

I am going to try and get her into the vet tomorrow. She does make that yawning thing sometimes but not like constantly. I am going to go look at baby buffs this weekend but I will have to keep them separated because if she has it, he probably has it.

She doesn’t yawn when pooping though. Just randomly

Alright the gas and bubbles are an indication of a gastrointestinal infection.

Sometimes if there’s too much gas it will cause the lower intestine to bulge and slow it’s function causing them to regurgitate food and belch when they poop.

It’s a good thing she hasn’t reached that point.

Were you able to get any antibiotics?

What kind of medication do they give them for something like that? Please say not baytril because it caused impaction then sour crop that killed her.

The medication depends on the cause,

SMZ TMP will treat giardia, coccidia, ecoli, among other things.

Metronidazole will treat giardia, clostridium, among others.

Amoxicillin will treat clostridium, e.coli, strep, among others

Baytril will treat a number of things including mycoplasma, e.coli, and clostridium

Tylosin will treat clostridium, mycoplasma, among others.

Certain antibiotics have a stronger effect on certain bacteria.


Any antibiotic will kill the natural good bacteria in the gut along with the bad which increases the odds of getting a Candida infection “sour crop” or an opportunistic clostridium infection. Every antibiotic is just as likely to do this as baytril, baytril is often prescribed when the vet isn’t sure what is the cause of a bacterial issue or if there’s multiple issues which is common, for example clostridium and e.coli are also common secondary infections to things like coccidia, parasites, and mycoplasma.

So being honest giving any antibiotics comes with the risk that they could get Candida or clostridium which can both cause excessive gas and an impaction.

Nope already have my own bottle of it. I came prepared this time I case one gets it. I had my oldest chicken now on a penicillin type medication it was a cillin type, can’t remember exact name, but she was in it for weeks for bumble-foot and we never had a problem like that.

Nope already have my own bottle of it. I came prepared this time I case one gets it. I had my oldest chicken now on a penicillin type medication it was a cillin type, can’t remember exact name, but she was in it for weeks for bumble-foot and we never had a problem like that.

Yeah you just never know when or who will end up with a secondary issue, there’s a lot of factors. My gander ended up with Candida after his 2nd round of Metronidazole and amoxicillin. He ended up on those again two months later “he has recurring giardia and clostridium” but he didn’t get Candida that time, I have no idea why.

And it’s been a really tough year for me too, same for a lot of other people here too it seems.

She died in my arms. He was so devastated I said screw it and went to a breeder this time. I bought a full Sebastopol female gosling. I spent 150 on her so I am not putting them together until I know he isn’t sick or won’t be getting sick. He doesn’t have any symptoms or sickness. His eyes are clear, his voice is nice, he is eating a ton and drinking a ton, his poops are solid and brown with white urates, he is getting his feathers in, he is active as can be. Obviously he is in quarantine but the new one is out getting aquatinted with my other geese during the day. Also would you happen to know how turkeys are? I am considering one for next year and I am asking people for their opinions. Like I know they can be aggressive but that’s with a newspaper is for! Kidding.
