Goslings of 2014 Hatch-a-long

Eek. His chickens sound scary! Lol remind me not to get any!

Aw. They become your babies don't they? I've told myself if this goose egg hatches I won't get anymore. Just the 3 will do! But I don't trust myself as far as I can throw me!

His chickens are wild because he is disabled and the hens hatch new babies every year that don't get handled. He keeps them though because they belonged to a family member that is no longer with him, they are his last reminder of that person. If they were handled I think they would be much tamer, we had 1 game hen years ago, Julie Brown, she was less friendly than the laying hens but didn't bite. She would fluff and charge when she had babies but never did more than threaten, she was an excellent mother and an OK chicken. We kept her just for her broodiness, lol. I just don't want his rooster breeding my hens or killing my immature Roo, so I have to keep all his birds out of my yard or the Roo follows the hens over. Game chickens are really pretty, the Roos are great flock guardians and the hens natural brooders.

Yes, I am very much in love with my geese. I didn't think I would be this upset when 2 left to live with my sister. They will have a decent home, my sister is a vet tech and knows more animal medicine than I do, and they have a lot more land with a nanny goat, 3 Barbados sheep, some chickens, and a fish pond. My brother-in-law is a bit gruff and rough but is a teddy bear at heart, and my sister is already falling for the geese. Their neighbor has a Chinese goose and a peacock, so the geese will have friends and care. But I don't want them to leave me! :hit it is especially hard because the 4 big geese have paired up, there is 1 suspected female and she is going to my sisters, which means I'm losing my biggest gander because that is her buddy. I decided to give my sister the 1 big female so I don't have to go through this again, I have 4 small babies in the pen that 2 are hatchery sexed Africans and 2 are amature sexed Chinese. So I hope to keep those as mates for my remaining 2 ganders. The sad day is tomorrow.

3 buff and 1 grey Dewlap Toulouse

Heidisgran... the only help these guys got was a little misting on the membrane of one when it started to stick to him. He was taking his sweet time hatching.

Awesome!! Congrats!! They are beautiful!!

it's the same as ducks? they internally pip up to 3 days before they externally pip??
external pip should be within 24 hours of internal pip or they risk running out of air. That being said... they shadow (stretch the inter membrane) before they internally pip. Shadowing is sometimes mistaken as an internal pip.
Awesome!! Congrats!! They are beautiful!!

Don't know how I missed this pic, but they are adorable! Makes me want to snuggle them. Congrats!

I look forward to watching your first set develop and seeing pics of all the future babies to be.

By the way, I'm stoked to see Jean Luc be such a stud. I kept one of his brothers and he is the same way. They are both following in Daddy's footsteps, which is super cool!

I am pleased. All 5 of the dewlaps are represented and each of the ganders have 2 off spring in this bunch. Napoleon is the oddball, so I was surprised that I got a grey from her. If it would have been a buff I would have no idea who the father was.
