Hi everyone,
I'm excited we have a goose hatch-a-long going. I'm a mommy to a trio of Sebastopols: Xander, Petunia, and Phoebe. Since searching high and low for them last year you could say I've gone a little goose-obsessed.
My geese started laying very early this year, particularly for the cold winter we've been having in Michigan, but apparently enough sunlight got through to trigger my babies into egg mode.
I just candled my eggs tonight and all 10 in the incubator are viable at Day 7. Considering this was each parent's first year laying and early in the season I'm surprised, I hadn't really expected such a great start to the year. I'd also had my doubts because this was my first time using the homemade cooler incubator (which of course I used everyone's suggestions and tutorials here to help me make).
Plus, I have those same two girls, Petunia and Phoebe, sitting on about 5 eggs each. They went unexpectedly broody on me and I decided to go with it. After all, why not watch over everyone at once?
I'm undecided yet on how many I will be keeping to expand my flock and how many will be available for purchase. But so far, I'm just excited that this season is starting off so well.
