Goslings of 2014 Hatch-a-long

lol i never said that ;) i might completely get rid of my chickens and just keep ducks and geese. Since some ducks lay as good as chickens i dont need chickens for eggs. These ancona ducks are supposed to lay 210-280 eggs a year.

Wow, that's a lot of eggs! The heat down here has slowed down our egg production drastically. But it will pick up again after the temperatures start cooling down. By then, my Cayugas should be mating and laying. ;) if you still want some, i will let you know when they are nice and fertile!

It will have to be spring time when i get them. I dont like raising little ones through winter up here. Plus im already getting to where i cant do much now by this fall i will probably be like a beached whale lol

I feel the same way about hatching during winter. I am going to check for fertility once they start laying to make sure the drake is getting the job done though, lol.

I remember that feeling, I couldn't wait for that beach ball to pop out, by 8 months along I couldn't even get comfortable and sleep I was so huge! But after, nothing beats the first time you see and hold the baby. Best part ever, right there!

Half of these should be laying within a month and the other half should be in 2 mos time. We are pretty sure all are female so im planning to get a drake for them. Possibly a blue and white drake since they are rare in this breed.
Im not all that big yet, 17wks 3 days. ive just been put on a kind of bed rest just without the bed, im not allowed to do anything but walk around. Its frustrating. They may lift that ban by mid August if things look better.

I have ancona ducks. They do lay a lot of eggs, but their laying season is shorter than chickens. Mine tend to start laying around March 1st and lay non-stop until the 1st of November, but my neighbor's chickens only take a couple of months off during December/January.

That season is good enough for me. I dont really care for chickens anymore. Id rather have ducks, geese and guineas.
