Goslings of 2014 Hatch-a-long

The first one is doing well, and now she has a friend, hatched out after a week under a desk lamp! This one has no issues, is doing really well. The first one also is spraddle-legged, so she´s hobbled... tied belly, tied legs.....

I was really surprised that the second one made it.. after a week under a desk lamp! We tend to get power failures here, so I´m really pleased that the only we had recently was when we were home, and although it lasted about 4 hours, we kept them wrapped up in their box and also my hubby sat with the eggs in his lap for a while until the power came back...thank goodness it´s warm here!
The first one is really perky, I´m keeping the umbilical clean, and she´s doing ok with the hobbles, so time will tell.....

Today is the BIG day at the farm. Scott will be here this afternoon to 1) examine the magpie with broken leg (hope he can be cleared for release), 2) examine a severely deformed peking duck that I brought home last week from the rescue that I believe has a poor prognosis, 3) examine Walter, the elderly African gander Scott brought us last year who I am also concerned about, 4) examine a baby duckling that one of my dewlaps injured a few days ago, and 5) surgically treat Spirit's latest bumblefoot problems. Fingers crossed all goes well.

Sounds like a good prognosis livin. keep the pic coming I kind of got behind having to move my dad in with us and working on getting his apt cleaned up and everything taken to here or other places so I am behind on all new hatchings.

Just in case anyone´s interested,
Thanks so much for posting and yes we are all interested!

The 'hernia' where the yolk sac was is really reduced now.
Just picking and poking yet... as you can see by the splashes on the mirror. I think it´s a little female, and I think she´s from my cross-breds, because of her foot colouring. Just out of the picture is the egg, which right now she´s cuddling up to. The egg should be out by tomorrow, I reckon. zipping now in progress.
I had a really hard time allowing the eggs to be left alone and do their own thing. the one we raised died and i think it is because we messed with it so much. GREAT work with raising the eggs/gosies so well! !

#Update : The Scots tape seems to work good any day the wing should be back to normal
Irish weather at the moment is unusually dry trees are starting to crumble and turning more orange and already starting to fall .
Some tree are still green.

So glad it worked Serv!

If you remember, let me know what he says about a Fl specialist =) and update us on how everyone is doing!.

Oh! I was thinking about your specs you sent me on the room. How do you keep them from not slipping on the linoleum? I have decided to bring Ollie inside with Forest. I just dont like her being alone when we are gone. We have a florida porch (front porch, hard wood floors, all windows) that I am going to section off half of for them. I brought Ollie inside and even he which has no leg problems couldnt walk on the wood floors. he slid all over them.....

Ollie is getting used to me holding him, but Forest is still scared and will run to me when he is near. all he has to do is look at her and she runs to me like a toddler on a playground! when they are both inside my house. she is fine with him?? I have an inside goose.... I wonder if it will ever change. right she is being forced to stay outside little amounts with the ducks but she doesnt like it.

Fun day for us! We brought home 3 new mixed breed ducks!! 2f/1m they are cayuga mix! (farmer has a mixed flock of several breeds (runner, cayuga, scovie, and more) i picked out one female that looks like a runner/uga, a male that looks like a mallard/uga and a female uga that is so vibrant purple and green that her feathers look a bit fake! took pics today but its hard to see there colors.

Update on the orphaned ducklings. i will post pics. two drakes adopted them. weird i know. one of them is a drake that i rehabbed/released two weeks ago.

How sweet that drakes would adopt ducklings usually they could care less about babies even their own. When Forest sees Ollie and runs to you do you make over her or just ignore her behavior?
