I would make it something solid though - like a board rather than just a rail. If they slip and get a leg though it they could break a leg really easily.

yes, i was thinking necks , but injured legs seem more realistic.I would make it something solid though - like a board rather than just a rail. If they slip and get a leg though it they could break a leg really easily.
So disappointing, seems the goose sat too heavily on baby...Little lavender baby (boy)![]()
Aww I'm so sorry livin. So disappointing, seems the goose sat too heavily on baby...![]()
Hubby went down there yesterday to mow the grass, and I suggested he wait until I could be near her, but he didn´t, of course... he was using the mower only a yard away from her... well, I haven´t seen baby alive since, so I imagine she sat too tight while she was nervous.
Shan´t tell hubby though, he´d be very upset that it could be something he´s done. May not be, of course, but it seemed a good strong baby. anyway, she´ll no doubt produce more either this season or next. Next season being preferable. The ups and downs of rearing geese.......
Thanks, MLyd... I was wanting to see what she´d produce, that´s why I left her with a couple of eggs. This was the only one that hatched, and it looks like she may have inherited the auto-sexing gene due to the colouring of the little one, so that much I´ve learned about her.Aww I'm so sorry livin.![]()
And he was 2 days old! Perfect little guy.LB, sorry the little one didn't make it.![]()
Aww that was so nice of you. look forward to seeing these goslings. Did you find the gosling that died? And he was 2 days old! Perfect little guy.Well, I dragged all the nesing out of the barrel and moved the barrel away, and she was wandering around all lost, looking at the place the barrel used to be....so I put the barrel back, put fresh bedding in, pinched two eggs out of 5 from another goose that are due to hatch end of next week, and in she went and looked as happy as can be. I´m sure she´ll do fine. I´m quite sure it was the mower going down there that did it, as the gosling was fine for the first two days, the weaker days, so I´ll keep an eye on what my hubby´s up to with his machines.....

I love that you did that for her. its a shame that the little one died, I have a husband that does nothing but complain about my very small flock of birds. he refuses to take part in any way other than helping me build an acceptable house for them (he is a carpenter). he wont even call Forest by her name even though she has lived in our house as a 24/7 family member for 4 months. Dont be too upset at the hubby, at least he mowed the grass and holds the day olds to keep them warm. And he was 2 days old!
