Goslings of 2014 Hatch-a-long

Looky what I got!!!!!!

PIEDS!!!! I decided to let them hatch indoors, rather than risk it with the geese. So, that´s two out of the four eggs and the other two eggs are rocking well. One´s externally pipped, hence the damp paper towel over it. These two have more of a saddle on them than the two that I lost, so I´d love one or two that have a little less marking on them, but if they come out alive and well, that´ll be just great. These will stay with me in the house during the night, and I´ll take them down for visits with their moms once they´re strong on their legs. I don´t want to risk losing any more.

Look how precious, just lovely. Congrats!! what did mom think about you taking her eggs?

Yes, it is getting cold here so south of the equator would be nice. I might have to stay for a while and, of course, would have to take all 62 of my birds along with me.

Better take a boat then. One reason I don't go anywhere and I only have 31 birds 5 dogs and 8 pond gold fish to take along.

Thought I might just buy a multi-million dollar motor home, have it converted to a poultry farm with indoor pond for the ducks and geese. Some kennels for the dogs and just drive down.

I know what you mean though. One of us has to be home at all times. If we both go not only do we have to worry about the birds and their risks but the dogs would panic and just eat the house.

That would not be good to come home to an eaten house. You maybe on to something with the motor home though be sure to post pics.

No big deal, these geese are really easy. I just help myself. I have about 5 like that. I put ceramic eggs in there to keep them happy. They have the same real mum, but I popped 2 of them under the one that sat on her baby. The real mum is an older goose, but this is her first successful year in producing goslings. So, I don´t actually trust either of them!
Once the babies are running about well, they can have them back..... 2 each. That is, if all continues to go well.

Well, there´s space.

Today it was 37ºC and it´s gettting hotter. We´re all hoping it´ll bring a storm....but nothing´s forecast until next month.
We´re more fortunate than some, as our well and springs are still producing water. I hope they keep it up! Some farms don´t have geese any more because of it, some people have sold their cattle cheap because their springs have dried up. The worst drought in 80 years, apparently. And there´s me, happy as a goose, with little goslings splashing about in water.....

One reason why we don´t go anywhere! 40-ish geese, 20 something chickens, a dozen ducks, 7 dogs, 5 cats, parrotlets....Can´t ask anyone to look after that lot without a disaster!
Here you go...and it comes with an inflatable duck pond...
Do you think they will let me across the border.

That´d fit right in!
