Quote: Oh I forgot nate that's right, look forward to seeing your babies.
It is an adorable pic that was worth your effort in my book! What a great xmas card!He actually laid down and after I finished with him and backed off he just kept laying there like he couldn't walk because he had this scarf tied around his neck .![]()
I like to see a pic of Mandie too she sounds adorable. I'd give her at least 3-4 weeks before letting the 2 of them have alot of time together unless your right there watching them, if Forest trips much . My gander accidentally stepped on a duckling when it was about a week old and killed it. That was awful. It is an adorable pic that was worth your effort in my book! What a great xmas card!
The baby is adorable and I have a feeling imprinted like Forest (same farmer). They hand raise their eggs. The baby (Mandarin aka Mandie) has a set-up right beside Forest's inside crate so they can see each other but Mandie cant get hurt. Forest isnt scared of the baby like she has been with all the other birds, she looks at her inquisitively. She did try to peck at her. My 11 yr old laid on the floor with Mandie last night for a few hours. Forest sat in her crate with the door open (about a foot away) and just watched the baby and my son interact. In case your wondering. She likes her crate, it's her safe place and she isnt forced to go into it. So far it looks good! I am thinking that by the time Mandie is big enough to spend "floor time" with Forest, she will be used to her.
How big/old should Mandie be to not get hurt if Forest pecks or trips and falls on her?
I took a pic of the flock Forest and Mandy were hatched from. They are really pretty birds. I will post some pics.
serv when Missy started laying her first year they started mating in mid Jan. by end of Jan she had laid her first egg, last year her second year they didn't start mating till first of Feb and she laid mid Feb. No telling what will happen this coming year except Sam is going to be 1 tired gander.Miss Lydia mine lay same time as half of the people on byc that own geese, it really only depends on the weather.
Hahaha I bet, mine usually start mating mid Feb and start laying near Mid March and begin brooding in April. But if the weather is warm in winter it is all earlier.
