Just re-joined this thread after being gone for a bit, and have a question now!
My eggs are on day 27 today (easy to remember because it's the same as the date). I'm not touching them today! Yesterday I opened the incubator for 15 minutes and misted them twice (once when I opened it, another about 2 minutes before I closed it again). I also candled them a bit later in the evening and two of them looked like they may have pipped internally already. Does this sound right? On day 26?
They aren't making any noises yet - at least not that I can tell. The goose egg incubator is in my closet where temperature stays pretty constant, and I've got chicken eggs in incubators in my actual room hatching every day. So it's kinda hard to hear much of anything with chicken eggs hatching almost every day. But when I candled them last night, I saw the "shadows" that I typically see with chicken eggs when they make an internal pip.
Now I've heard that goose eggs take MUCH, MUCH longer at each stage of hatching than a chicken egg will. So internal pip, wait a couple of days, external pip, wait another couple of days, and hatch? Does that sound right? For chicken eggs it's more like internal pip, wait 24 hours, external pip, wait 12 hours, hatch.
So does it seem normal that I saw possible internal pip shadows on day 26? I know they COULD always hatch EARLY, which would mean internal pips almost definitely had to happen yesterday for it. But for a NORMAL hatch, is a day 26 internal pip about right?
