Goslings of 2014 Hatch-a-long

Peas are the probably the best veggie you can buy in terms of niacin. Young fresh grass is also high in niacin.

I was thinking about this...serv, it seems, hasn´t had a problem with lack of niacin. and I was thinking, as he lives in the natural territory of these geese, they´ll be getting the new, rich fresh grass as they need it in their breeding season. I never came across problems rearing goslings in England, either.
Now here, totally a foreign place for geese, they nest when it´s winter, of course, but winter here is dry season, so the grass is still not as good as when the rains come, which is when they´re about 2 months old. Many people here where I live now say that it´s very difficult to raise goslings, and have a lot of losses. I´m sure it´s because of the lack of niacin, the grass being less than it needs to be. I wonder if it´s a similar thing with some of you guys in the states? What do you think?

10 days old, first time in the grass.

Look at that lil fluffy butt.

Livin i think your right there about everything in your comment above but what are signs of lack of niacin?!

Stunted growth, being 'boney', weakness in the legs, wanting to sit a lot, then goes on to look like a fit, can thrash about..eventually dies. They respond very quickly to being given chick crumb, but of course, that doesn´t solve the problem, as they soon go down again.
i lost 3 or 4 like this last year until I discovered what it was. The previous year I didn´t lose any, but I can´t remember now what the rainfall was like to compare, but I reckon it has something to do with it.
And yes, J, peas.

1 week down 3 to go! I am going to let the girls try hatch some on their own. I could have goslings for a while! I am not expecting the girls to hatch any as they are yearlings. We shall see. Of the 20 eggs I either candled or ate only one wasn't fertile.

Niacin is vitb3. As far as feeding our geese, romaine lettuce has it. Otherwise, it´s in meat, fish, some seeds, avocado pears, mushrooms and some other things.
Good to know what natural foods I can feed rather than that boring stuff all the time.
