I just put round 4 in the bator... week one was all duds, week 2 has 5 dewlaps growing and week 3 has 5 growing and 3 that I'll recheck tomorrow to see if they are quitters or slow starters. First possible hatch day is April 16th. it seams so far away

Just checked on my babies again. Out of water at 2am. Silly ducklings probably used it to bathe!

I love how the babies stretch their necks out to "honk" at you like a full grown goose, but just peep at you! Lol!

Not necessarily, may well depend on the type of grass. Native grasses are probably better than lawn style grass, and lawns like kikuya can cause all types of problems.
I found your post interesting. I looked up Kikuya grass, and we don´t have that here. We do have a lot of Braquiária which is originally from Africa, imported to S America for pasture. (We bought a field and built our house on it) The geese like it if it´s short. We keep thinking about putting sheep out there too to keep the grass short, but we´re in two minds. There´re native grasses that grow here too, and we´ve planted Esmeralda which is a lawn grassaround the house, and in a few other places. They don´t seem to like the esmeralda too much, that´s why I was interesting in following up your comment. Interesting stuff. I´ll have to do a bit more digging. What grass have you found is good?

LB, I could.... but I probably won't. She's already been on her nest for 10 days and is a young yearling. She'll get over it after she sits for the duration. There's always next year!
Yes, I agree. I don´t do anything with my year-old geese. They can be like little girls playing dollies!! I have one here, she´s so funny. she´s 7months old, kicks the poor laying ducks out of the barrel, then sits in there making alittle nest, just like a 10-year-old playing mummies and daddies!

8geese, thanks for the reminder to save eggs for ornaments! I'll be sure to start collecting the non-hatching eggs for that.

LB, yes that is what my girl looks like. She is not even 10 months yet and for a dewlap, that is very immature. It's sweet that she wants to be a good broody, though and I have high hopes my little girl to hatch babies next year.

I might try the air compressor, but i have a feeling that i will probably end up wearing most of the egg lol

If you do, try to find someone that has an air compressor that comes WITH a car (I own a pontiac solstice and mine did, because there *is* no spare tire, period). Those air compressors are usually weaker and are more likely to blow the egg out without blowing it up.
