Goslings of 2014 Hatch-a-long

Huh! I wish it was that cheep! ;-) best price I could find was £15 per bird. So what's that? $25? Then they go up from £25-45.

I could start a new flock of geese for that. Suddenly I feel more patient!

You might want to check into American or Canadian companies. One of the companies I found was in Canada and I think they were the ones who charge $12. It would probably be much cheaper for you to mail the plucked feathers over to them, than to pay the full price where you're at. And I think many of them give you the option of having results emailed to you.

I'm not only new to hatching eggs but how to maneuver correctly on the forum. Please excuse my awkward posting. Im not sure if I've done it correctly...I really want Sebastopols. I purchased an r-com pro 20 incubator and my first five shipped eggs..they arrived in terrible condition and none made it. I read up about detached air cells etc. it said its best to incubate the eggs upright after no turning for 7 days. So I bought a brinsea octagon 20. Now to my question... I've had the sebastopol eggs upright, no turning for 7 days. They were put in the bator march 27th . I've been gently rotating by hand today, Should I keep them upright and start the auto turn in the brinsea? Or place them on their side in the r-com with auto turn? I candled them and not really sure if any are good or not. One seems clear The others have "something" but not the distinct veining your photos (posted by Pete on another thread) show at 7 days. More like what they show at 3-4 days? Any info is appreciated!! I really want some Sebastopols and have had the hardest time getting them. Commercial hatchery goslings don't seem to be of very nice quality and the breeders either don't ship or such limited quantities I keep missing out! Thank you!!

I'll try to remember to get back to this in more detail when I get home from work. But for now, turn them on their side. Goose eggs shouldn't be up on end, especially when they hatch.

As for sebastopols, I've got two good sources, but neither of them will have anything for the rest of this year. One is for eggs, the other for goslings. The egg source ships very well, and packs evry well. They did have detached air cells, but ended up in MUCH better condition than the others I got.

I incubate my eggs at my mothers house. Nothing will hatch or develope at my house for some unknown reason. Since my mom is battling cancer i am at her house 90% of the time any way so thats another reason i incubate there, plus she likes seeing the babies hatch.

I am so sorry about your mom. My mother has been battling brain cancer for 6 years, she was given 3-5 to live. It has seriously impacted her life. It's on the speech centers of her brain, so she has a really hard time using her words properly to express herself and she can't keep up with normal conversations. Her cancer cant be removed buy operation, she had to do chemo instead. She does get really depressed, it's the main reason I chose to purchase the property right next door to hers. My mother was born in France, And she has been feeling nostalgic these last few years, wanting things from her childhood. So I planted wisteria for her to drink her morning coffee under and smell her favorite childhood smell. When I was talking about getting chickens, she wanted geese but wouldn't have been able to care for them, so I got the geese for her to enjoy. She used to have chickens, ducks, and geese when I was a child and she misses them. She comes over regularly to just sit and watch the geese, I think she finds it relaxing. Because our houses are back to back we come and go to both houses and spend lots of time together, we installed a gate in the back fence to make coming and going easier. Once the geese and chickens are old enough, they will also be going to my mothers for weed and pest control. She can't be around any chemicals, not even something like deodorant.

I hope your mother gets better and that you both have many happy years hatching goslings together.

Really? Why geese in particular? I realise it's not a natural way for any egg to lie but then neither is being stuffed in a box and sent through the post!

I had a look. I found one in Canada at $14 each. I'll have to wait until Lucy feathers out anyway so I will see if I can tell by then. :) Thanks!
