Goslings of 2014 Hatch-a-long

I come back from town after taking my son to get a chipped tooth fixed and everyone is having babies! Congrats all!
Yay for fuzzy butts!
Not me! Although I did just get 6 Royal Palm turkey eggs in yesterday and set them today. My next big hatch date though, is May 3rd and 5th. I normally just toss eggs into the incubator as they are laid, but we saved some up to help five first-grade classes do a hatch together. Three of us with chickens in my area collected all of our eggs for about a week and handed over 100 eggs (20 per class) on April 13th. I set all of the extras (anything above 100) on April 12th. The teacher meeting up with me set the 100 that we donated on April 14th.

The rule was, we get first pick of the babies that hatch (we marked the eggs) and any chicks that are NOT adopted by local kids (and only with parents' permission) we also get back.

So I have about 25 eggs due on May 3rd, and the classroom eggs should hatch May 5th. I doubt they'll find homes for 100 chicks, so I'm expecting many of those back.

Wow, you will have chicks coming out of your ears!

Lol! I just might name my next gander Paris! The littlest Chinese are doing great! Big, fat, happy, and finally getting their first feather shafts on their fuzzy butts. They are 3 weeks old and I can barely see the feather nubs, but they are there! Those 2 love swimming! They are a joy to watch. I think they are another goose/gander pair.

The situation with Cream has been handled. The feedstore wanted to do a straight up trade. My month old Cream for a 3 day old female gosling. I would have none of it. I knew they would resell Cream at a higher price due to his size and age, making a profit off of me. I did take both Peaches and Cream to let them see the differences and 1 employee agreed with me that Cream was bigger, the other said he didn't know geese well enough to say. We spoke for about half an hour and came to an arrangement, I purchased 2 goslings, also sexed as female Africans, for half price. Basically a buy 1 get 1 free deal, and i got to keep Cream! The feedstore will contact their hatchery and most likely get sent replacement birds and so still make a profit. I think both parties are reasonably happy and I give this feedstore very high marks for customer service. Much better than the feed store I purchased my first batch of geese and chickens at.
OK, I caught up with you! You´ll be over-run! Crazy lady!

Lol, it is a very good thing I am building a 2nd coop. Not only will I be able to separate the chickens from the waterfowl, but I won't be in as much danger in the mornings when I open the coop door and they all come stampeding out! It is quite a pretty site, all the chickens and geese running with wings spread, calling out their happiness to be free from their coop. And then, of coarse, the geese go straight to the pools and the chickens go straight to the rose garden, lol.

So pick up day for the ducks has been moved up to tomorrow.

Thanks!!!!!! The next two should be out by in the morning and those two are marked. I have a good chance for a dilute or a loud colored pied with those two.

Can't wait for pics of them!

Tomorrow I am leaving early for a 2 hour drive to pick up my new duckies and then another 2 hours back. But I will check for pics when I get back and get them all settled.
