Goslings of 2014 Hatch-a-long

Here's Beignet with her two goslings. She has two more eggs under her, but they have not externally pipped yet. I am debating on grabbing the eggs and putting them in bator so Beignet and her mate can get on with raising the pair of beautiful babies.



In the meantime, Delta, my African goose, has been in lockdown for a couple of days now, but as of yesterday none had pipped yet.

Thank you brazil! They are precious and for some reason, much more attached to me than any other i have hatched.

I sold two pair of my Pieds today, they get picked up tomorrow...that means more room for more babies!

I always knew that crows were terrified of gun shots but ive no gun or gun licence! And the clapping board idea is really good but i use two bricks that clap loud
Its always the same carrion crow(silver back crow)

A stock whip also works.

hubby said if i wanted to keep some i had to make room for them by selling some. I wonder if selling 4 adults equals keeping a possible 31 babies? Sounds like good math to me hehehe

Speaking of "babies," I think I just got myself into a bit of a bind. Maybe. But it's chickens, not geese.

I got two of my friends who are semi-local and also raise chickens, to go in with me on a school project. The school needed 100 eggs to split between 5 classrooms. So we provided 100 eggs. The caveat was that we would provide them for free, as long as certain babies came back to us. They could find homes for others if students got their parents permission to keep baby chicks, but extras would also come back to us. Basically, we didn't want the teachers making money off of the eggs we GAVE to them. Well, the school unexpectedly had others contribute for a total of almost 200 eggs. They were all due this past Monday, May 5th.

As of last week, they had 165 still viable.

I just received word that it was about a 50% hatch-rate overall. The teacher who picked them up from me said most of them didn't find new homes, so she wanted to know what my schedule was like for this weekend, so she could bring "all of the chicks" to me.



I have a funny feeling this lady is about to show up with 80-100 baby chicks! I did say please bring them back if the students don't want them, but um... oops?

Thankfully, I already sell them year-round. But once I post these (cheaper than the ones I normally sell, since I will have no clue who came from what egg/what breed) they'll probably go fast!
