Goslings of 2014 Hatch-a-long

Ok, now I am really confused. I let everyone out this morning and Jas and Sniw go straight to the pool, which is normal. What is not normal is Snow got on top of Jasmine, she arched her butt up, and he tried to mate her. They turn 16 weeks tomorrow, so aren't they too young for this? I thought 8 months old was the earliest they would/could start mating and laying. But I could tell that is exactly what was going on, could see Snow's equipment and Jasmine had her rear up. I don't think Snow hit the target, but he sure was trying. Is this normal behavior? I first thought it was a dominance thing, but now it is looking like mating behavior. Please help.
Well, you obviously have a pair.

Hi i really want geese but lot sure if I will get any but I was wondering what would be a good first time breed
I have pilgrim-type geese and they´re delightful.

I found this pic today and is very close to what Missy egg looks like

so we shall see if that's the case then 10 more days.

I have a question the pool in that part of the fenced property has the largest and deepest pool in it, should I drain it or will they not take it to it. This has me worried it's not right next to their house but up on the hill behind it, but it's their pool There's ways to get in safely but not sure what to do to make it easy for a gosling to get out of it.
I have a cement mixing tub I can fill down closer to their house. If I dump the big one then 6 ducks will be without a pool for several weeks. I just want to keep this gosling safe though. Now look at Pete's at day 25

There's not too much difference. actually looks more like day 14. lol
Is that first egg for geese or chickens?
With the pool, can you float a piece of wood on the water, attached with some rope or something to the bank, like a duckboard? You´d need to place it right where the adults get in and out.
As for the egg, I´d go with Pete´s, it looks more like the one you posted yesterday, and the one I posted, don´t you think? That means Missy may be a mom Wed -Fri. Here´s hoping.....

It may not be even though it comes up with other pics when I type in goose candling egg chart. but I have another question Missy isn't coming off at all and when she does it's only for like 5-10 minutes doesn't get wet either doesn't she need to be wet for humidity?

A pair yes, but what genders are the other 6 geese? Lol. The Africans were purchased as sexed goslings, though I think Cream is a male. Then I still have 2 younger white Chinese. I think the Chinese are a pair as well, 1 of them tried to attack my dad a couple days ago. If I am right, I have 3 boys and 5 girls, could make for a very interesting year. Lol.

Seeing as chickens can successfully hatch out goose eggs, being wet isn´t essential, just important for her to have access if she wants it. She should know instictively. Does she have a baby pool nearby to splash around in if she wants to? Exciting, MLyd!

Unfortunately I can only keep 2 males. If I do have 3 1 needs to be re-homed or cooked for Christmas dinner. If Cream is male, I will keep him, have 1 male Chinese and 1 male African. That leaves 1 of the Chinese ganders as dinner, and hubby says the meanest 1 will taste extra yummy. I am NOT looking forward to that, I just culled 4 aggressive Roos and am cooking 2 for dinner tonight. But culling is never easy for me, and having to cull a goose I raised makes it SO much more difficult. Part of me hopes only 2 are males, but then hubby would probably make me pick a female for his dinner. :(
Either way, life here will be very interesting since my geese are "practicing" mating behavior at 16 weeks old. That means when the younger geese hit that age they too will join the practice sessions! I think I need more pools....

Well, I find it extremely hard to kill any of mine, even chickens! I prefer to find them homes. There´s absolutely no way I´d ever be able to kill one of my geese. They´re just so smart and likeable.
So, more pools, then...

Goodness, mine are still babies, and they´re 7 months old! I tried to split them into two groups recently, one group to sell, stayed with the moms, and one group to keep, stayed with the dad. One of the boys kept calling his dad all the time. So I´ve put them back together again for the sake of peace, just take a pair as I sell them. big babies!
