Thanks Janet they are so big, well Babe is Toots is still small and petite so hoping she is for sure a girl.

We let them have babies one year, kept one, he's about 5 years old now. The geese rule the barnyard, even the donkeys. The donkeys are like big outside dogs, in fact one of the dogs is the same height as one of the donkeys. Most of the time if we are outside working in the barnyard they are right there with us. If we sit down they will put their head in our laps.

Lydia, I took photos yesterday with my good camera, I will load them onto the computer and post them here soon. F.Y.I. Forest is officially inside at night now. The last night I left her out in her night time coop in the duck run, she screamed for 25 minutes. When we leave during the day, she goes in her coop outside. I moved her down a level so she can see the muscovy that I am rehabbing. they are separated by 1/2in hardware cloth, both have leg issues. she protests but nothing like at night. I think she feels unsafe at night. She protests when put to bed inside but only a light call that lasts a few minutes. she listens to Chris Botti in my sons room with him. since she was imprinted and raised in the chicken brooder with chicks, do you think she would get along with a chicken or will she ignore them like she ended up doing with the duck?

Maybe a stuffed chicken but I really don't think she'd be happy with a chicken seems it's you all's company she wants. That is such a sweet pic.

I agree with you. I just dont like her being alone when we are gone. Like you said, I need to get over feeling guilty about her not being with "her own kind" and except that she just wants to be with us not other birds. I really want a couple of silkies and japanese bantams, so if she doesnt like them, then it will still be a gain because I will have little chickens =)

Forest's flight feathers are very long and today while she was stretching her wings she came off the ground for a second or two. Half of me says cut her feathers so she doesnt fly away and the other says that it is a chance for her to get around the yard better because she isnt going anywhere by walking. What is the right thing to do? I honestly cant imagine her flying away from us. she has a five foot proximity that she has to be in with us. She screams and tries to stand on our feet and make us pick her up.....but ...would she fly away if she could?

Everyone keeps asking for Forest pictures so here they are. I hope I dont annoy anyone with such a big post.

This is Daisy her scovy duck friend. Daisy really like her, if Forest is screaming or carrying on, daisy comes over to make sure Forest is okay. Forest doesnt care about her at all.


Forest wasnt happy that she couldnt peck at the lens. These two people are Forest's favorite friends.

this is as close as she likes the ducks to be. she screams and hobbles away. this is my backyard flock minus one drake with a injured leg. the blacks are feral rescue/rehabs, the blue fawns(?) I bought from a terrible neglect situation, the whites i bought from the farm I got Forest from.



this lasted about 30 seconds before she hobbled away. * the bucket was a photo prop, not the normal way they eat*

See @Miss Lydia :slate blue eyes. is this normal for a pilgrim female?



Her beak is finally getting some orange in it. See the scrape above her nostrils? is there anything I can do for it? She always gets them from falling down.

Males white, usually with a little grey on them, with blue eyes, and females a light grey with a little white on their faces and brown eyes.
Forest doesn´t quite add up, so by the colour, can´t know if male or female, although should be female, eyes a bit off, although that grey looks lovely..... but is a dear, well loved little goose anyway.

Andrea, s/he´ll do fine with the ducks, just give it time. S/he´s only a baby yet, and you´re still mom, but as time goes by, s/he should slowly become part of the flock with the ducks. This is natural in gooseworld. All the ducks look to be females, so that´ll make it easier on Forest.
Oh, and waterbirds often like to rummage about in the bottom of a half-bucket of water for the goodies.
