Goslings of 2014 Hatch-a-long

Question for those who have raised a lot of ducklings..... has anyone had a duckling that did not grow? I have a 2.5 week old duckling that is the size of a 4 day old. It appears healthy and eats/drinks well, but is teeny, while the other 5 that hatched with this little one are growing like weeds.

{Does DH stand for "Dear Husband"? and I agree on that. he doesn't even know how many we have now because he isnt involved. } yep and he is a dear, but it does get old being told I have too many, finally one day i told him so and he hasn't said much lately. Although i have a Scovy duck that has been broody since last march or April i have lost count lol I have tossed her outside everyday lock her stall door so she can't get back in but she won't quit, so next year she may get a few eggs, when I mentioned that he said more ducks though. This girl is fawn colored I'd love to see what she produces. I only have blk pied drakes though but did mange to get a blue duck from a mating of blue duck to blk pied drake. I feel sad this duck is going on 4yr and never had any ducklings to mother. I have other ducks that haven't hatched any either, i manged to keep duckling free this summer but i missed it and so did the girls, it's just so hard for me to sell them and then you don't know if they would sell either and I have to have room for everyone to sleep at night , my ducks live a long time unless i lose them to egg laying issues so that means my room doesn't open up. I'd love to be able to let everyone just sleep out in the open like livin can but it can't happen here.

MLyd, I let my blue duck hatch ducklings(bl pied drake) thi syear because I wanted a blue one, but not sure if any of them will turn out blue. Happily, I´ve found a middle-man who has a feedstore, and I take the extras there sometimes, but usually I only leave one or two eggs with the ducks. At present I have 3 ducks sitting on 4 eggs. Why not just leave an egg or two with the fawn one next time? Can you give her a chicken egg to hatch to break her from the brooding?

OK, so the last gosling of 2014 Brazil has gone down to join its bros with the goose. I tried putting it and a bro in with its natural mother, but she´s a bit odd, and just wanted to bite them, so the other little goose that sat on (suffocated) her baby has the 4. Holding my breath....... She successfully looked after the 3 last night, and today the 4th one is down with the others. The 4th isn´t a pied, just normal grey....will take pics of them later. Another 3 weeks, and I can rest up a bit.....

Glad to hear #4 hatched and is already down with the rest.

Too late in the year for babies here, she'll just have to get over it till next breeding season since I haven't seen any mating in about 3 weeks probably no fertile eggs, actually all ducks have finished laying for the year. I did get 1 this morning and was pleasantly surprised. Next season I pla n to let my lil game hen hatch me out 1 and i mean only 1 rooster.

since my only roo is going on 6 yrs I need another rooster and letting one hatch here they get accepted easier.
But Joy will probably still be broody next year so she'll get first try at hatching. lol

J, here is some threads on Micro Ducklings, maybe that's what you have.. as long as it's eating and acting normal hopefully it's healthy, sometimes it's a defective heart too. Hope it's just normal for this duckling. would love to see a pic.

Nope, I agree! I cant let it happen here . We live closer than most on the thread. I know that there are way too many predators! I can add coyote to our predator list.

Had the same problem with my gosling actually because i hatched 4 goslings from the same parents and 3 were growing very well but one but this is a odd cross so i thought it must be female so it grew on still smallest in fact so tiny i thought is it even growing? Because it was eatting and getting everything the others were getting but like i said i thought it was female ,then 2 months later it grew so fast it is the longest and lanky of all 4 and then i thought why was it so small ? Will never know but i do now know that all 4 are ganders :-C
But thats life.
