Goslings of 2014 Hatch-a-long

I hope everyone is hunkered down or at least getting ready to. We are under a week long freeze warning now starting on Tuesday night and running through next Thursday. Highs only in the 20's. The Polar Express is on its way. I know that many of you all that are North of us (which is pretty much everyone not in Florida or So. Calif.) probably are already cold and frozen but this is really early for us and supposed to be really bad. Fortunately there is not much moisture in the air so we should not see much ice. I have spent the better part of yesterday and this a.m. getting all the pens ready...covering windows to eliminate drafts, making sure ventilation is adequate, putting down 10-12 inches of new bedding. I will have to take out water every couple of hours and make sure they all have plenty of heat enhancing food to eat but they should be o.k.

My 4 week old Bantams and 4 week old roosters are still upstairs in their brooders so, even though it can get pretty cold up there they should be o.k. I was going to move them outside next week but now it looks like they are going to be indoors for another 3-4 weeks.

So, everyone please stay warm, watch out for ice and slippery spots, and keep your birds comfortable.

okay, thanks for telling me about the temps. they didnt seem phased at all about the weather! it was neat to watch their actions with the light though!. they had a party! I always thought they went to sleep after i turned the lights off! THEY HAVE A NIGHT LIFE LOL!
If they didn't have a light on they'd be sleeping.

Thanks serv I am thinking so too, actually Sam mated someone in the pool today but by the time I got out there where I could see who, they were all in the pool looking quite innocent. lol

How are things going in Ireland?

Hehehe, I still go for it being a male by its behaviour. The video looks to me like boys sticking together. Sam may even 'breed' with him, @Miss Lydia , but you´ll know before too long, eh?
Just not sure YET hehe, but this morning when I was out cleaning chicken coop, Sam and Toots and Babe came in for a visit and of course Toots goes over in a corner and starts noodling in the shaving and talking very quietly to herself, well one of my EE's the only one right now laying since they have all just finished up molt had laid an egg so I laid it down on the shaving an she had the best time touching it and rolling it around. lol Babe and Sam had already walked outside.

It´so sweet seeing them play dollies. They all have such a strong instinct don´t they? Even some of my ganders will do it.
