got 2 eggs at once today from my "first timer" easter egger

She's about 24 weeks old so I figured she'd start laying soon. She was acting kinda funny yesterday and today. Well she climbed on top of the bag of pine shavings - I keep it inside a black trash bag so I can close it up - and when I checked on her later this afternoon there were TWO eggs in there. Sneaky girl!

They aren't from anyone else in the flock. I hope she was feeling relieved after that!

It won't happen again! The only reason she laid two eggs the same day is because she didn't know what to do yesterday when she had that feeling. Its the same way with double yolk eggs.

A hen goes through her cycle about every 26 hrs and will lay one egg for every cycle. A lot of times young first time layers haven't got the right techniques worked out yet and they do weird stuff like lay double yolks or two at once. Now that she knows what to do she will be looking for a permanent nesting spot.

I bet you were surprised with that though. I've had a lot of double yolks with my new flock but not any double egg days.

It can happen again just not all the time.My hen I got rid of would leave us 2 eggs every once in a while.So it's not something that just happens once but it doesn't happen all the time either

I've had a BSL produce 3 eggs in a 24 hour period, 2 of which were witnessed 5 minutes apart.
