Got a little rooster in the flock!

Opened the hatch door Sunday morning at 5am and my six chix liven' in the stix came down their ramp. Georgey Girl stopped, stuck her neck way out and crowed like a teenage boy! She is now Gus. Named after Augustus McCrae....Robert Duvall's character on Lonesome Dove. We look forward to his little crowing, and hoping he grows into a protective and friendly guy. I've read that one should not be friendly with the roosters...which is tough because she, er, HE is the friendliest of the bunch. They're six weeks old.

Love the name (Gus is my favorite character in LD). Crowing aside, the bits of rusty color you can see in the wings in the picture are also a clue as to your little EE's gender....in case you are seeing similar coloring emerge in any of your other chicks.

Pullets love to morph into roosters to upset the apple cart. Most times the joke is on them because zoning codes forbid possession of roos.

Luckily, my nearest neighbor is a mile away. No zone problems here, so 'old Gus has a good home long as he's a gentleman.

Cute bird! Yes, I have heard that too...not too be too friendly with the cockerels. You might want to feed him last, give him treats last, ect....you are treating him like you are the flock leader this way. Worth a try to keep him docile.
