My grandson has been taking riding lessons for the past 6 months and is horse crazy. I had gotten his older sister a horse several years ago but she just wasn't that interested. I told him if he still wanted one after one year then we would look. His lesson horse unexpectedly came up for sale because they got a reining pony for their granddaughter and my grandson loves Freckles. It's hard to find a horse for an inexperienced kid and he is a 14 yr old gelding who's had lots of kids riding him and is very well trained. This boy takes no crap either and doesn't let him get away with anything! I fear I've created a monster now. He's calling me every day to go riding and it's 15 degrees here now. Too cold to ride for me!

Lucky kid! Tell him he has the best Grandparent on the face of the earth!!!!! I had to wait 27 years to get my own horse. And I had to buy it myself! Tell him he has to love you FOREVER and do anything you ask him!!

Kids and horses....perfect together. Hope he keeps his interest up, its a great interest for a youngster. Keep em out of trouble.

very cute horse.....he looks like a cow horse/reiner & I supposed he is Colonel Freckles bred, considering his name is Freckles lol

That's great - so unusual for the boy to be horse-crazy instead of the girl! Like a PP, I had to wait many years (28) to get my own horse and had to buy him myself just three months ago, so your grandson is lucky indeed. I have a horse-crazy DD and a DS who will go out and ride with us (and is not a bad rider) but doesn't get the "horse crazy" bit. For him, a horse is a means of entertainment - once the ride is over he's ready to go home - doesn't care about sticking around to groom and talk to his steed. In fact, he commented recently that he wishes we were rich enough to have a groom and we could just call down to the stables to tell them we wanted to ride and when we got there, the horses would be saddled and ready to go

Sadly, he just doesn't "get" it. Oh well....

Yes he is, Colonel Freckles is his grandsire.

You are one very horse smart grandparent! He will learn a lot from that horse.
