Got Flogged by A rooster tonight

Gamefowl. Smaller, lighter than your typical DP breed roo, aren't they?

I like this guy/gal, my thoughts exactly. X100

It's the only way I can work out in my pen's with all my birds and over 20 SQ breeding roosters.

Depends on what you mean by DP.

American Game are around 5.5 lbs
Old English are around 6 lbs
Asil 4 lbs to 10 lbs depending on type
Malay 10 lbs to 15 lbs depending on type

Big, meaty guys, huh? So, given the choice between a naturally cranky breed of roo that doesn't have any real good egg laying/meat production genetics and a breed that does have those traits, but can be trained to be nonaggressive towards humans, who in their right mind would choose the genetically inferior perpetually ticked off rooster?

Most American Game are very good egg layers. Now I will give you the meat part but then aging I also have Sussex/ R.I. Red crosses that I use for meat and my American Game don't have to be a big producer of meat.

Why would you say that Gamefowl are, "genetically inferior"? If they are so "genetically inferior" why are nearly all chickens today dependents of some sort gamefowl?
If they are so "genetically inferior" why are they least likely to have health problems?

Big Roo, Little Roo....doesn't matter the size or age......they need to be dealt with effectively. Effectively is whatever method you find fit at that present time.

I am an old dude Al, I only have 4 roosters at the moment, put 10 in the freezer last month. Do you raise anything other than the SQ Cornish? I have been raising LF Light Brahmas from 3 hatcheries and trying to improve size for meat, but I am getting old and afraid I don't have enough time left to accomplish that, thinking of getting some breeder quality stock which would give me a jump on my breeding.

I'm dealing with the first man fighting game rooster I've ever had to deal with. Been raising them off and on (more off than on) for more than 40 years counting helping my dad.

My instinctive response when he sallied up my leg the first time was to kick him off. He figured that out real quick. Pele in his prime couldn't hit this bird with a foot.

Everyone's first response is kick or smack them off.

Chris09, how do you think one rooster would handle another aggressive rooster (should'nt the chickens be giving a us a clue as to how a flock works)? Do you think he will set him down and do a psych evaluation and discuss it?
