Got great-looking silkies from Cackle!

I got through! And I have 10 blue and 5 white coming on July 8th. My daughter ordered 5 white black tailed japanese also. Can't wait to get them! Thanks for sending the pictures in. They look much nicer than the ones I got from Ideal last year. I don't have them so I don't know how they turned out but I do remember they didn't have that much feathering on the feet.
So I'm excited and I'll post pictures when I get them so we can compare LOL

Just wondering how your silkies are turning out. Any updated pictures? Mine are coming in 3 weeks. Can't wait to get them!

Im glad to hear this about Cackle because I have 5 black Silkies on the way from them right now, along with a bunch of Polish chicks. I ordered some mixed bantams and Polish chicks from them before. They were held a bit too long by the post office but this wasn't the hatchey's fault. The ones who survived were beautiful chicks that are now a little over 2 months old. I get complimented by others frequently on the pretty bantam Cochins and Polish chicks that they sent to me. I recently placed another order from them because of this. My Cochins have very pretty feathered feet like your Silkies and are so fluffy and cute. My Polish have large pretty crests also. I was pleased when I started getting lots of compliments on them and all of these particular chicks came from Cackle Hatchery. I have never shown any so I am not sure if they are show quality, but they sure are pretty!

Many hatcheries rely on relationships with other breeders to provide some many of their breeds. Thats why if you visit the hatchery , you will not find all the breeds on site, or the hatchery is in Iowa but when you get the chicks the postmark is Tx. This may not be true with Cackle , they may raise their own. I only bring this up because of the inconsistency people experience between quality of chicks of the same breed, purchased from the same hatchery.

In my opinion if all a person should expect from hatchery chicks are that they be healthy, good customer service and reasonably represent the breed characteristics.

I also believe for many people hatchery chicks are the best way to go, because many private breeders do not represent themselves accurately (mostly from ignorance) and it can be very costly trying to find the educated ones with a good breeding culling program.

Thank you and have a very pleasant tomorrow.

The chicks do look surprisingly well for hatchery silkies. Their feet have good feathering and so now the wait to see how the feathers actually look and if they have other good qualities. Like you said they may look as good as some you might get from a breeder or hatch from eggs. Hope they turn out really well for you. Keep us updated on their progress. I have sold all my silkies now but I still enjoy looking at pictures.
