Got illegal chickens?

They are right, silkies don't look much like chickens and the one I have that everyone thinks is some kind of exotic bird is my polish hen Queen O'decoup. She is my tamest and loves to be held and cuddled. I should take her to a pet store some tie. What a hoot that would be!

omg...that's funny!!!!!

I currently have 3 Asian Ground Parrots. I know the limit for chickens here is 2 per city household just FYI.

Another crim'nal here..4 illegal ladies, going on a year now, with zero complaints. 2 of my 3 neighbors can see the hens, and 2 of my 3 neighbors get eggs from me. The 3rd neighbor is rude anyhoo so he can suck eggs.

I've had 2 raccoon incidences (just a lot of squawking and flying feathers), and once found a HUGE marmaduke dog inside my coop, OMG that was a little freaky.

The law requires me to have a permit, but I heard the inspector is a turd and so my plan is to be illegal until and if I get caught.

Actually, my city is pretty cool, the mayor is super-green. It's legal to collect rainwater (did you know inmany cities it is NOT?!) And soon the recycling pickup will be free (as it should always have been!) I also just discovered that it is legal to dumpster dive, so I do that for my hens. I think I wrote a post about that recently. TONS of fruit and lettuce and other niblets from a school dumpster!!!

How many of the posters on this thread who have admitted to keeping illegal chickens, and bragging about it, have children? How many believe they are religious? How many support our troops, honor the flag, and believe in the laws of the land - and teach that belief to children? How many believe that the laws are not for you, or that maybe you're just bending the law? Regardless of the justification you use to circumvent a law, as long as that law is on the books - it is the law! If you want to change the law, do it legally, (And, yes, it takes time and might never happen) but until then don't flaunt the law just because you don't believe it pertains to you.

its a dumb rule, dumb rules shouldn't be recognized. i didn't agree to the rules when i was born, never even got a user manual for it. if what you're doing isn't hurting another person then you are free to do it. chickens are awesome and if you had a large chicken farm facility you would probably have an easier time breaking the rules than Mrs Smith

What if it was against the law to read your Bible? Would you turn it in? What if was against the law to go church? Discipline your children? own a gun? it is in a lot of countries and may not be that far off in this one. in Alabama there is a law on the books that says it's against the law to put an ice-cream cone in your pocket.

I don't think anyone is "flaunting" the law, but there is a point when one should question it and opt for common sense over common law. I see your point and respect it and I appreciate you pointing those things out.

Harlequin, there is so much wrong in what you posted that, please, let me point out what I find are simply justifications:

"It's a dumb rule; dumb rules shouldn't be recognized." Many believe rules(laws) against drugs are dumb and break that law for that reason. Is keeping illegal chickens less of an infraction than breaking the laws against the use of drugs? The law is the law. Disregard of the law, however "dumb" it may seem to an individual, or a group of individuals, can lead to anarchy.

"I didn't agree to the laws when I was born." You were born into the rules.

"Never even got a user manual for it." There's the Bible, Koran, Torah, and other religious guides; if you aren't religious than I'm sure you are moral and understand the intelligence in following the laws of the land as written.

"If what you are doing isn't hurting another person then you are free to do it." Not if it's against the law.

Laws must be followed until changed and then those followed or civilization suffers.

I'm not suppose to have chickens either, but I do. I've got 9 now, all hens. I put up a lattace fence around their chicken coop, so they can't be seen. They get a good piece of the yard to scratch in. In the winter I move it all to the garage, since I live in snow country. So far, so good!.
What's the worst that can happen? You'd just have to find another home for them. Good luck.
