I have a skunk in my trap. It is in the middle of a field so there is no way to sneak up on it. I have no gun or anything either. HOW amy I gonna take care of this thing? I can't even go to let the chickens out for fear of setting off the skunk.

Geez, that stinks!
You gotta get out there before it gets to hot, though. Good luck.

Might want to call Animal Controll....or Gamewarden. Let them deal with the little stinker. LOL I agree tho, needs to be soon...its going to get hot and even tho you want to get rid of it....you dont want it to suffer.

What do you plan to do with it? Haul it off? Gotta pickup truck?

Gonna end up with something stinking, no matter what. Find a blanket you can part with, sneak up on the cage behind the blanket. Throw the blanket over the cage. Then haul it to where you want it, keeping the cage covered at all times.

Mom has trapped skunks on her porch (they eat the cat's food) and used this method to haul them off. Has a 50% chance of not getting the cloth sprayed. She says skunks don't want to live in the stench, either... But if they do spray, watch out for the wet spots!

ok I got it. I just went down and put a blanket over it and opened the trap and it waddled off. I think it helped that it was a hooded skunk (white on top and black belly, no stripes, known to be more "friendly") and the it was a baby. It was the cutest thing just seemed so comfused and scared. whoo that was scarier than dealing with any coon.

How about this one.

I have a driveway that goes half moon around my property. Our electric service was cutting trees and chipping them on the spot. Since our tractor is broke right now we cannot run our wood chipper so my SBF

asked them to give us some wood chips, so they were kind enough to give us a big pile of wood chips at one end of the driveway. My cousin is visiting in her RV so we now need to move those wood chips so she can get out that end of the driveway because the other end has too big a dip and she will hit bottom.

A skunk family of 5 dug a cave into the pile and now live there.

We have to get them out so we can move the wood chips. In addition, there is a friends school bus he is turning into a camper sitting right in front of the woodchips. My chickens like to hang out under the bus during the day so I think I need to keep them in their coop for now.

Whew! Glad you didn't end up with a big stinking mess on your hands. You're lucky it was a baby and not a big mad momma. I still probably would've relocated it, though. Now it knows it can get snacks, spend the night in the cell, and then be released...

I think coons are scarier. They can kill a dog. Skunks just give them a new odor. I think possums are pretty scary, too.

Desert Dawg, I would coop the chicks, and start digging on the perimeter of the wood pile. Get close to the den and stop for the night. More than likely, Mom will move the babies to a safer location during the night. If not, carefully excavate until nothing is left but an open den. Sounds like the skunk family is used to having activity in the area, so they may not get too alarmed when you start digging. If they all come running out while you dig, you may have new issues to deal with...
