Got my babies!

Well, the one of the weak ones died this afternoon while I was at work. And the second one, that I thought was doing a little better is dying right now. We've given her sugar water and tried to get her to eat, but she won't even move on her own. Right now, my hubby (who tries not to act like a big softy around the chickens) is holding her. He doesn't want her to die alone

It is sad, but not totally unexpected. The 3rd weak one is still slower than the others, but it is eating and drinking so I still have a little bit of hope for it.

I don't know what breed she is. But she and the first one that died look alike... feathered feet, blue body/ yellow head. I'm going to start a thread in the breed section to see if anyone can help ID some breeds.

It's always sad to see them go like that. Im glad she has someone with her however. That's really all you can do.
This may be a dumb question but what is that blue green stuff?

OH, so sorry you lost a chick.

I love that your hubby doesn't want the little one to die alone. My hubby is a big man but such a softie when it comes to the critters too. My best for the rest of your babies

Ideal offers a vitamin/electrolyte supplement for the chicks to be given the day they arrive. It's called Grogel and "chicks really seem to go for it!" is what the ad says.

I am waitng on mine from Ideal. They were to ship today, so I will call the PO again to inquire about the status, but hope to have them by 6 am 2/19!

Oh I see. I looks like it would be heavy in liquid content to help them along..

I dont know for sure, but I would say it is probably Gro-gel. I know McMurray offers it for delivery with their chicks. It contains mostly water, but is full of vitamins and minerals to help get them going during the first few days after shipping. I would also assume that they can't drown in it. I have some coming with my chicks in 2 weeks.
