got my first chickens today! 3week old pics

@Jeeper the gold ones are Red stars sex links, so I am not sure if we will be able to tell them appart. Probably not.

You probably will once they feather out--they are less likely to be a single color--usually will have white patches in different places.

@kimchi yes I got them from my pet chickens

I am considering the name Jade for the EE since we just cannot come up with a name for her on our own lol
@woodmort I am sure you are right, after looking at them closely one have a lighter head then the other so we tello them appart that way for now.

here they are today, one week old, the gold one on the left is peaches, black one is Bella and the other gold one is sunshine (or sunny) my daughter named them

isn't the easter eggers tail too long to be a hen? I know it's too early to tell but I am freaking out already because I really really wanted collored eggs

plus she is the biggest and has the most feathers already

and a question, they seem to poop in their water all the time. I am changing their water at least 3-4 times a day. Is this normal?? I give them fresh clean water and come back 20 minutes later and its dirty already. Same with their feed. I usually only scoop out the poop of that and give them fresh feed every morning. I am really hoping I am doing everything right.

oh ya, i forgot Red Stars are gold when babies. i accidently dropped a Red Star chick in the Buff Orp bin at my feed store last year. needless to say, someone who wanted 15 buff orps probably got 14 and a Red Star lol!

Just as a general rule, not chiseled in concrete or anything like that, but as little chicks, USUALLY the pullet is the one with the more prominent tail feathers. The cockerels are going to grow bigger ones LATER, and as very young chicks, their tailfeathers look kinda stubby.

Look up the threads on "nipple waterers" (despite the name - that IS what they're called!) and then contact Neil Grassbaugh here on BYC to order a couple of them. There is NO water waste, the water stays clean, there's NO way for the chicks to get ANYTHING into the water. It stays fresh. Basically, there's a plastic bottle which you drill a hole in the bottom (11/32 drill bit size) and screw in the nipple. Fill the bottle with water, punch a hole in the top and put it on, hang up the nipple waterer with the nipple JUST over chick head height. They peck at the metal tip and it delivers a drop of water... they peck, they drink. Wonderful thing!

Here's one view of one I'm using:

Another view of the chicks in the brooder using it:

And a bit of a closer view so you can see how it's installed, perhaps.

they are absolutely awesome. It's been around 90F+ here so I leave them outside during the day now and they love it.

Doesn't have a name yet, any suggestions? ^^

How about Zucchini? Or Buttercup?
I'm a sucker for cute names--- lol.
I'm glad you can tell them apart! When they grow up you'd be able to, anyway, if you live with them you learn to tell them apart.
