Got my first egg, unsure when...?

Hello! Im new, so hopefully I'm posting in the right section...
So I got my first egg (YAY!), but I'm not sure when it was laid. Im confident it was today or yesterday, but the weather is super hot here right now (in the 100s). If it was laid yesterday, is it still edible after 2 days in the coop in 100 degree weather?

I honestly wouldn't, I think that sounds pretty gross.

You can do the float test, fill up a big cup of water and put the egg in it, if it sinks it's good, but if it floats it's gross.

thanks for the reply! I feel so bad, I don't want their first egg to go to waste! I plan on checking every morning for eggs, should i check throughout the day while the weather is hot?

Instead of eating the egg, use a needle to make holes in the top and bottom, rinse all the insides out, and save the shell.

If it's less than a 2 weeks old it should be ok even in that heat. Even though people refrigerate eggs they don't absolutely need to be. Most countries don't wash or refrigerate eggs till they are bought by the consumer. There are a lot of eggcellent threads about eggs, storage, and where to wash or not.

I would eat it. Candle the egg and you should be able to tell if it's good or not. We have heat here too. It shouldn't go bad in 2 days.

Everyone here is so brave lol, I wouldn't eat an egg that's been in the heat over 12 hours. I check once in the late morning and once in the evening.

I check a couple times per day. They don't lay at night (like in the cartoons), they lay in the day. Most chickens are on a cycle of greater than 24 hrs to lay an egg. A hen might lay one at 9am today and not lay another till 11 or noon the next day. Then she might lay one at 2 or 3pm on the 3rd day. Eventually she might not be ready to lay till after dark. That is what we call her taking a "day off" because you won't have gotten an egg that day. But come sunrise the following day, she will lay and start the process all over. There are some breeds that can make and lay an egg in less than 24 hours though. Those breeds you might get an egg per day most of the year!

Since it was layed in the coop, break it open and feed it to your dog if you have one or feed it back to your birds. I would eat it. I just don't see it going bad that fast and it's wrapped in a nice package with bloom to keep bacteria out.
