Got my meal worms ready to make my farm--questions

Go get you some quality GBS. Meal worms and roaches be darned!

Just because they go crazy over it, doesn't mean it's good for them!

There is a "report" button somewhere...oh, there it is

I really wish I had the time and money to raise my own meal worms...It would save me like...-5 trips to the feed store every month.

What the heck is up with the meal worm junkies? I know I'm missing something, just not sure what.
Anyone....anyone?

Joe go look at those Videos from the first page of posts.

There's a guy has one box of mealworms been raising them 12 years. He cleans them out once a year. Gives them some Oatmeal and a few carrots ever so often. You have time. And you'll save time and money if you are already buying them.

Next time you go in and buy some live ones. Buy 2 and start your own colony. Instead of running to the store, feed em.

Well, I don't deny that growing your own meal worms is cheaper than buying them on the open market. My question is....WHY?

Unless you are raising geckos or something.
Next time I go and buy live meal worms...It will be well colder than 0 deg C, down under, I can assure you of that.

Now, if your goal is to raise your own meal worms, then knock yourself out! I will support you 100%. Other than that...I have to ask...WHY?

I don't normally give treats of any kind to my Coturnix, but I might treat the breeders. So for protein treats for the birdies. And I have chickens and ducks that will love them in the winter when the pickings get slim around here.

I am thinking of setting up a small breeding operation so I can have them on hand to feed whenever I want to. I can't always get to Pet Supermarket to get them and they are waaaay more expensive there. So price and convenience are important to me. The real reason for feeding them is 'protein' and 'fun'. I LOVE watching them fight over them like vultures over a fresh kill. I've even had some jump on the backs of others to get within 'flying distance' of a worm in my hand. Pure entertainment value for me. But then, I don't get out much. HA!

Well...pretty much any breeding model will do just fine on "out of the bag" GBS. if you are raising or buying meal worms...you are most likely (OVER THINKING) things just a tad. I have never lost a single bird, because of meal worm deprivation. I know I'm not the only one....you chickens
