Hi there, I was a member a long time ago, but cant remember my profile info . . . so hello again!

Anyways, I got my new batch of chickies this morning, and Im pretty excited.
I got a nice mix from the LFS, 5 rhodies, 8 barred, 3 goldlace wyandot, 3 delaware, and 2 wellsomer(???).

And I missed my aracanas by 5 mins, a guy had just bought all the 35 they had . . .

But next week they get more green-eggers, the guinne keets, and the turkeys I want!

Heres the chickies for now, in a 50gal aquarium as a brooder, I took these pics earlier today and have since lined the sides w/ paper/cardboard, covered the box, and placed the waterdish/food tray better.

And I was so excited, I made my friends and myself work the rest of the day adding onto the main permanent coop, and will finish it tomoro.
Then I need to build my portable run that will attach to my tractor, cause I like to keep my favorites separate and spoiled . . .

Sooo cute! I love the Parson Russell Terrier too

(we adore our PRT). Does your terrier try to get at the chicks?

Our chicks are not due to the end of April--I am living vicariously through everyone else's for now. Sigh.

Jack will kill ANYTHING . . .

It makes life difficult sometimes, but I love my dog more than the chickens, so I make do . . .
I take dog-proofing seriously tho, and havent lost a CHICKEN to him, yet . . . (hes gotten all kinds of other "pets")

Here is a short video showing my happy chicks, and my anxious but well-behaved dogs . . .

So the chicks have settled in, all are eating and drinking, and they are looking good.
They seem to be processing nicely.

Its been awhile since Ive had small chicks, so I been brushing up on my husbandry on this site.
There is tons of good info, so thanks!

I got my buddies coop mostly done today, but the top gonna hafta wait till next weekend.
This week I plan on constructing my new pvc run, and Ill need to expand my henhouse as its only setup for about 4 chickens.
My existing coop is one of those rabbit hutches with an attached 4x10 run, tractor-style.
I think I am going to make a completely new house that is 4'x 8'x4', and 3 nests along the back wall, that should be plenty big for 8 hens.
The new pvc run will be 10'x20'x4', and should be light enough to drag around the yard.
