Got our ducklings!

My khaki looks dif. than yours. Mine is from cackle hatchery which I think (sorry) are a crappy hatchery. I think she is part runner as well. Yours look beautiful! p.s im jealous :)

:p

My only experience with ducks are the ones we own, but, I can't see much difference between Tilly & our birds. well, other than my birds don't come inside or wear fashion accessories

. I think you have a real cutie there!

Ours will be 16 weeks old tomorrow. They are comfortable ranging the whole yard now & even figured out 'hiding places' to take naps. They still come running when we walk outside but will go right back to what they were doing if we don't have a treat. They LOVE people (actually, maybe they just love attention?) and will go to any side of the yard that has someone there. And they will raise a ruckus until they are talked to. One side of the yard fronts a street close to the park & we've noticed that folks (especially with little kids) will stop and talk to the ducks. Even the high school b-ballers crack a smile when they go quackers.

They want to be with you but don't want to be touched or held. The best they will do is come up and rub their head & neck against you. Usually they leave a streak of mud when they do! We wanted 'tame' backyards birds (not pets) and we couldn't be happier. They are trying to figure out the 'hop-on-top' game, it is funny to watch.

I had the camera out with me this morning (trying to get photos of them flying) & got a couple of lousy photos of the herd trying to talk to a lady & her dogs.

Ha ha! When I said she was different I meant she is not purebred or close so your birds markings are more defined then my tilly. Tilly was planned to be raised as a pet. I did not plan on her being this cute! :p What happened was I bought her and her sister through farm and fleet, from farm and fleet. THAT was a BIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIG mistake. But I transgress. Her sister ended up dying so instead of her being raised as a "pet" duck, she was raised as a "member" of the family. She actually loves to be pet. her favorite thing is "butt scratches". Don't worry I don't mean her ACTUAL butt butt. Just her tail and the sides. Sometimes under the wings. The funniest part is she would never let you stop if you didn't stand up and walk away. First she bobs her head then she make s her body go flay while she's standing up and that means that she wants a butt scratch. :p She is a dork. But I love her. Her new sisters are a WHOLE different story. They don't want me to touch them for nothin'. But they are tame and they don't bite so I guess I'm getting at is that they are NOT like tilly. I need to get some more pictures of them on here!

We kept our youngest grand daughter Fri nite / Sat while the two oldest had pigs in a prospect show on Sat. (6th & 7th place.)

Chloe had a captive audience!

When they travel - single file please!

Sunday we had a birthday party for the 10 yr old. She is one of two girls in the school archery club and a HUGE Duck Dynasty fan!

and yes, I could talk about my grandkids for hours....

Thanks for sharing.

Well, our little girls are getting all grown up. The ducks that is! We got our first egg last Monday & one every day since.

small, thin shelled (it seems), getting a little bigger every day.

Finally got some flight pics this morning

We are heart broke.. we lost our two khakis to a fox. Fox ambushed them while they were napping in the garden. My 7 year old handled it well, more angry than sad says we WILL get more, but next time we'll get 10 khakis, a fox won't mess with 10 of them.

Saddest part is our Pekin female wandered around the yard the next day quacking and quacking waiting for them to respond.. heartbreaking. Now I need to find a Brinsea Advanced incubator and a dozen khaki eggs.. I need a set and forget incubator.

What makes you think a fox won't go after 10 khaki ducks, he may not be able to take down all 10 at one time but he will get them all unless you get him first. and maybe you can find a friend for your lone Pekin by looking on craiglist or pet finder. Very sorry for you losses.

Quote: It's the thought process of a 7 year old.. The 7 year old is the one that said "A fox won't mess with TEN Ducks.."

I have two Pekins, a male and female, and they are fine together.. after a day they didn't seem to notice the missing Khakis..

I've set snares, and have started a bait station to bring in the fox and other predators before I set traps there. He/they won't be among the living for long.
