Got rabbits? need some info on breeding

I've always cut the bottom 3 inches or so out of a paper grocery sack for their hay. The sides naturally fall in so it keeps the hay from being dumped out. But a fair amount ends up in the pan still. None of the hay feeders I've seen have made me want to give up my current system though.

you hutch needs to have abox on it, for males as much as females so to get out of the heat or cold. My rabbits are outside all the time and you need to have hay with them all the time this is for bedding to eat and to stay warm. My rabbits eat a high protien diet of pellets, but they have corn, and we have a garden so they are getting garden stuff now. but if you feed them this sort of stuff the bunnies may get the runs if so give them a little bit of Oatmeal not cooked but not much this will stiffen them up. The cages look good, "big" which I have seen some very small cages in which the rabbit could not turn around in them.
Oh yes if you leave the female to long in with her babies and they mature let's say they WILL BREED WITH THEIR MOTHER. I had this happen once and you don't want to breed brother and sister I am learning this. I got a deal on 3 rabbits but one didn't want to breed so I got another one but on first breeding I had 2 deformed bunnies one died at birth and the other I think I killed it I thought it could not get the food and the siblings were eating solid food so I gave it some the next day it was dead I guess it was not ready.

Let's see if I can get this right

thank you for all your help , I have been so sick with my asthma this week,,,ordered to stay indoors...its driving me nuts. I do go to feed and talk to all my critters, but have had no real time..... my doe has a special nest built already and seems happy...... I can't wait to get out there and play with them........ at least the rain has stopped here..........I was so looking forward to pulling lettuce from garden for my bunnies but my garden pretty much drowned this year........ I appreciate all the words of wisdom from everyone and hope to be back outside soon

My bunnies had babies under my house, they had built a large burrow. I thought i only had does but one turned out to be a buck so I had unexpected kits running around.
Anyhow the girls stayed inside the burrow with their mum and the buck was rounding up all the boys and kicking them out of the nest so he could kill them. He didnt want any other boys hanging around. Nasty!

My dear burmese "charlie" bought 2 inside for me to look after. He didnt hurt them at all, I got a shock when I walked in from work and my son said "mum, theres a baby bunny in my room"! and then I found another one, they were unharmed and just sitting there with a puzzled look!

I went outside and caught another and saw the buck chasing a little grey one, I rescued him and bought them in too. I had to bottle feed them as I couldnt get to the doe, she was too far inside the burrow. They all survived and went to kind homes.
So dont leave the buck in there with the babies!!!!!!
good luck

OH ,and how much time between this birth and new breeding? thanks all. wish I had better news.all the way around......I am ready to begin a new week for sure........

I breed dutch which the daddy is and Netherland Dwarf which your doe is, never breed them together, the dwarf is the smallest breed of rabbit and the female shoudnt be breed to anything but another dwarf, too much of a size diffrence, your Lucky the doe didnt die, Im not trying to be mean but the have a huge possibility of getting stuck and killing the doe, as you can see in the dead babies they are squished around the mid section, most likely they were to big for her to have them and she had trouble getting them out, so they were either squished to death or suffecated. I too love babies, and will be happy to help you find another dwarf to breed your beautiful doe too.

Most likely the reason they were so big is that there are only 2 of them. If the buck is just a little larger than the doe there shouldn't be any problem with them breeding. I would wait about 2-4 weeks before breeding again. Make sure to only keep them together for a few minutes as well as put them together several times a day I usually make sure I see the buck breed 2 good times and this means falling over both times and make sure you see the buck fall over this will ensure lots of fertilized eggs also put the doe in the bucks cage. Good luck!
