Got sand? You should!

Hi All-

Do you guys recommend using sand only in the run, or in the coop and run? Also do you find that when it rains the sand in the run takes forever to dry out??? I know pine shaving in the run after a rain is pretty nasty. Half of our run is covered half open but when it rains it gets in there no matter what. Please let me know!

I've heard of casting pearls before swine, but never storing pearls in the hens house. It sure looks like a string of pearls in that scooper photo.
