I am so jealous that your TS is still ordering chicks. Our TS will only order chicks for two weeks before Easter and then in their own words, "We are done with that".
So, I have ordered more through Cackle Hatchery that will be here sometime next month.
I HATE the waiting game! Good for you on being able to still buy your chicks locally! Congrats! They are cute!
Usually, a smaller, more defined spot on the head is a pullet PLUS darker leg fronts PLUS black color, not silvery. The larger, splotchier, more irregular spot on the head PLUS lighter legs, PLUS silvery color like he got dusted with powder over the black is a cockerel. BUT, these sexing rules are about 90% accurate. I had a 10% pullet, LOL. She looked just like a cockerel for the longest time and fooled lots of experts.
I am really hopeing that I have one of each with the BR's I have heard that BR roo's can be very sweet - so I am wanting a roo with them. I am having second thoughts about the RIR's I dont think they are RIR's they do have alot of light coloring on them.
the NN's are turning out to be very sweet and shy - the other chicks kinda push them around little - so I am going to set up a second brooder and divide the mass and put 10 and 10 in each brooder.
some of the ones I got out of the banty bin are really big babies - almost look like standards now
while some are the tiniest little things I have ever seen. I will post some pics tomorrow of the big bantys with some of the standards - who knows maybe some are just growing faster than others since I did get tham at different times.
thank you for your help Cyn with the BR's - I really would like a sweet BR roo like yours.
does anyone have any idea what that really dark brown one might be - I looked on Privett's website and found nothing like it. all these babies come from Privett since it is only about an hour away from me.
