Got some new chickens- any help IDing?

Why did the chicken cross the road?

She wanted to go see the bricklayer.....

Lame ones are some of the best... ;)

it all started when a vampire bat bit a chicken and there was gene transfer.... those chickens had survival advantadge over regular chickens... so many drunk tourists- major food supply...

Haha... that is pretty good! :p

So I just got done giving such thorough exams to the new girls, I am fairly certain there is going to be a notice of harassment lawsuit in their egg nest later... hehe.. I mention this because transylvanian vampire chicken who is in question- yeah, she wasn't massively bigger, def. bigger (but not Jersey Giant, I wouldn't think, in my totally unqualified opinion! Certainly not so much bigger to warrant being called a Giant by any means!), but those EEs are kinda small compared to the BR as well, esp. the buff/light one... anyhoo, I am sure she will always keep her funny made up names!
Funny we are naming her vampire stuff, since my daughter swears she is evil! She pecked my husband when we were wing trimming (what else is expected when she wants to sleep, but was just accosted and driven away from home and then accosted again?!). I think she is lead hen, so she tends to watch and protect the others when we try to get them... she was quite docile during her exam tho... but the name still fits, I guess! :p

And Kev- I just looked at your profile chicken- what the heck is that?! Is that normal looking or edited on the computer?!
And Sun City huh? We used to live in Temecula. :) Beautiful area!

The stuff nightmares are made of. Expect him to visit youuuuu in your dreeeammmssssss sooooonnnn....... muaa ha ha!

He's an Alaskan snow ring neck pheasant. The only thing done was cropping the pic so that's really his face.....
lol.png
Despite his looks, he's really a nice guy- no biting even at handling unlike your blood sucker. The red areas on his face are normal for ring necks.. courtship/male display traits kinda similar to red combs for roosters except the red on pheasants are not bare(feels like those tacky velvet Elvis paintings lol) and they can expand/retract them.. pretty odd to see.

Temecula is nice, just a bit crowded nowadays. But the weather is way nicer than where I am, ugh. Where'd ya move to?

Love to find out what name she ends up with! ;)

hehe nightmare bird.... on sesame street?! Toldja I make lame jokes!

He is awesome looking- you know those sheep clay-mation shorts/movies? He looks like the guy in them! I think it was a human... who knows, I can hardly remember what I eat from one day to the next! But def. someone in one of those clay-mation shorts!
tacky feeling... as in has short little feathers giving it texture? We noticed when handling the birds today- they have tiny little eyelash feathers! So cute. We are chicken newbies, and it took me about 2 months to even handle one. I made everyone do it for me! So that is lotsa progress, since I had to handle and feel up the 5 newbies today! lol
Yep, Evil Trans-vamp-chicken girl is a horrid little beast, I tell ya! lol
Maybe we will stick with your name.. :)
We were in CA a few years ago, my husband was stationed at Pendleton. A wonderful place to live on a semi- military base moving vacation kinda thing, but CA is waaay too crowded for us!

3 EE's

As to the black one...could be a Jersey Giant, if she is really big, but she seriously looks a lot like a Black Star. If it has any red bleed through anywhere, then I'd lay odds on that.

My Black Stars (sexlinks) have long tails and are good size birds. They also differ greatly on how much red they have. One barely has any and a greenish tint to her feathers. They lay a pinkish brown egg...almost taupe...not basic brown like the Barred...not "colored" like an EE.

I found this photo...the top left egg on the man's index finger is what my BSL's lay.

Nice looking birds.

I was wondering BSL, but she has no red bleed thru. But she matched aside from that it seemed. I am no expert, but I don't feel she is big enough for a Jersey Giant. Her egg I think matches that perfectly. :) Well someone's egg does anyway!
No pic came through on your post...
Thanks!
