Got some new chickens- any help IDing?

All are hens, including the black one. I don't know what the black one could be- don't keep black chickens so am not familiar with black breeds. I think people who try to guess on her should consider the fact she has a pretty long tail.

The one in nest box may be a "pure" EE, all of the other hens besides the black one seem to be EE crossed with different breeds. Because all of them have pea combs and have all different colors.. one(second pic) looks very strongly like an EE bred with a pencilled/partridge bird, maybe EE with partridge rock if her legs don;t have any feathers... could develop a line of pencilled EE birds from her.

edit- perhaps the black hen is an EE mix too- just one that didn't get the pea comb gene. That could explain the longish tail on her... EE mixed with a heavy black chicken? It would work well with practically all of them being EE mixes....

That is what I thought as well for the penciled/partridge rock!! No feathers on the legs.
I have a pure PR, already, so that was neat to see. I don't know anything about crossing breeds in chickens. And I too was thinking one was a 'pure' EE, as she had the more hawk-like face and her colors as well. For the 4 days I have had the birds, I have gotten medium green, light blue, light green, speckled and a pink (possibly a funky light brown) eggs so far, if that helps any.
Thanks!!

I agree she does have a pretty long tail but her back feathers are all tightly packed and there are no saddle feathers (I had a Black Australorp who had a long tail too).

Sorry- didn't mean to imply long tail= roo. Most heavier breeds have short tails... that black hen has a pretty long tail for a heavyish hen, which is unusual for this reason. Thought that might help someone with IDing what breed she is. Might be Australorp if long tails are common in these....

rojoreo, great detective work on your new birds! Sounds like the hens are settling in very nicely, what with giving you colorful eggs already. :)

If interested in breeding pencilled/partridge, all you need to do is get either partridge or pencilled(basically the same as partridge only with Silver gene added to block the brown/gold pigments) roo and breed him with that hen and all of the chicks will varying degrees of pencilling. some might even have excellent pencilling..... Be the envy of the block(flock?) with pencilled/partridge EE!

Thanks Kev! I didn't think you implied that at all. I was near positive she wasn't a he, but I am just starting on the road of chicken knowledge!
It would be neat to breed such pretty birds. I don't have much space for it though. :( And I already have a rooster- a Crested Polish- wonder what those mixes would look like?! It would be totally cool to have more of those though. And some Speckled Sussex. I have one, and she is an absolute doll. :) Have a great evening!

hi the only chickens I know anything about is the black australorp and Ive found out all pure BA's eyes are black, legs are black, feet are pink not yellow and tails are short theres no saying this black one is not a cross with BA. I have 2 pure BA and 2BA x RIR and aside from a few red feathers the only difference between the 2 that I can see is the gold eyes of the BA x RIR , they both lay the same coloured eggs too pale pinkish brown so this doesnt tell what the black one is but more what she isn't as for the others I've no idea .

Yeah, I am in agreement, if she is BA, then she is def. a mix with something else.
Along the long tail route- she also has spurs. I know hens can have them, but hers are fairly well developed. Is it possible she got a longer tail as well due to the hormones involved for spurs? I imagine we are probably not going to get a good ID on her. :)
It's okay! I love being able to tell people what they are breed wise. I can just make something up! All of my friends and neighbors are not very familiar with chickens at all, so they won't know the difference! :p

Just tell people she's a Brazilian Night Chicken. At nights they sneak around, using their long tails to trip people.... their spurs are for cutting open veins in unconscious people.... their faces are so red from all the blood they drink.....

Oh there we go! But we gotta add vampire in there somewhere, then! The Brazilian Vampire Chicken? Transylvanian Night Chicken.. this could get fun! And the the EE/pencil partridge is an Easter Pencil-neck, of the greater Easter Islands... hmmm kinda lame, but most of my jokes usually are! :p
