Got the Mottled Orp hen I think

Has your roo molted yet? Maybe it would give you a better idea when he does. I have a Cochin mottled hen with a few white spots. The breeder said she would get more white after her first molt. Maybe this line just needs a lot of work. It wouldnt make sense for him to not give you the roos mother. Maybe it is her??? Be fun to see how she crosses with him though.

Well this is my first time working with mottles so I will see what happens. My Cockeral will be a year old in May so he hasn't molted yet. He got whiter than the Mom although he was produced with a black Roo.

Maybe we are starting a unknow color pattern with these birds. I have shown my birds to the Brits on a board and one person suggest the exchequer color of Leghorn. I looked at pictures of those and it does resemble that color but not exactly and when you look at the chicks they are born nearly white. These chicks like Mottles are born black. I am determined towork to get the best color and type possilbe. ya'll help me with this project if you hatch any from me. It may take a few years but if we get something consistant going we can all meet up with our Orps and get this color excepted by the APA.

Sounds like a plan!!...I'm up for a drive to AL. with a mottle....lol

Band that gal too so you can keep track of her feather changes when she molts again...

I think this will be fun. I have the gene now. Another color to work on besides the blues, whites, splashes. I will just have to try to find different bloodlines.

Well, keep me up on the color of the chick. If he is the black and white color then you can breed hiim back to Blacks from a different line then back to this one again. After I hatch some from the ones he is in with now I think I will put two blacks from the Sandhill line in with him and see what happens.

Julie, I am hoping that you send me some when I get my eggs in April. If I do get some and they hatch, then I will certainly ask for your help in breeding them, to help improve the line.

Also, since I have no idea on mottles what happens if you breed to a white? Who am I kidding I just barely have a grasp on the blue/black/splash thing.
