Yay ladies! So happy for them 😊
They are doing so well! I didn't expect to see the difference in such a short amount of time (especially considering the effing weather we've been having!), but they really are thriving. Even beaky and one of the other girls that was a bit skinny.

They have found a spot under one of the raised huts to do some dirt bathing and Romeo the rooster is so very content and caring with them (though he does fancy Big red.).

At my workplace (a hotel) we keep alpacas, ducks, my little group of golden pheasants and also a small flock of chickens.
A few months ago the last of our hens passed away and our rooster was left alone with the ducks in the big run - so just a couple of weeks ago I signed up to adopt some ex battery hens and we picked them up this wednesday passed.
I am over the moon in love with these ladies already and just wanted to share some photos and maybe ask some questions.

They are mostly in really good condition and come from a "free range" commercial situation, but so happy to be outdoors, with enrichment, ponds, varied food, SUNLIGHT (though quite a bleak, Scottish variety 😅) and a rooster to look after them.
Romeo the rooster is also absolutely delighted to have them. ❤️
We have had no eggs so far but I am sure they will soon get to laying again!

This is the lady that is in the worst shape of the lot, but she does love to pose for a photo.

She's got pizzaz! She will be beautiful soon.

Have you had them out of the run and on some fresh grass yet? Romeo should show them what to do. Even an hour a day makes a difference to there mental and physical health. They would need supervising caefull, partly because they don't know much about what they should and shouldn't eat.

Unfortunately we can't free range the birds on the hotel grounds, that's why the run is huge and filled with enrichment. Come spring there will be sprouts and things growing in the woodchips also, but beyond that there is nothing we can do.
