Though I don't really agree with tail docking and ear cropping, this is a different ball of wax. This is talking about putting metal through an animal that is then intended to stay there indefinitely. As we know with people and piercings, they easily get infected and require care for an extended period of time. I doubt a person looking to buy a pierced animal (though I have no idea who would be in the market for such a thing), would devote the time and effort needed to care for such a thing. The arguement that: parents allow children to get pierced ears at young ages, and it would be wrong to hold cat owners to a higher standard.; is just ridiculous. Of course a child who is old enough to talk and speak for themselves is different than an animal who is at the mercy of its owners. The whole thing seems weird to me.

I've seen tiny infants with pierced ears, way too young to have any choice or say-so in the matter. I find it offensive, and think each person should be old enough to make a conscious choice about piercings. IMO, since animals can't make a conscious choice about piercings I don't think they should be pierced. And neither should babies...

i agree that in this case its cruelty (and stupidity) as she was using it 100% as a marketing ploy...
i think my biggest issues with this howerer is the potentialy damage this could do.

cats and dogs ears are NOT like humans in terms of holes in the ear...
while it can get infected, in most cases its highly unlikely, and is just like putting a tag in a goat or cattle ears...
however, a large enough hole, unlike humans who will always eventually close up, cats and dogs ears dont nessicarily close...
(weve all seen strays with nicks in their ears right?)
however...put something THROUGH that hole in an animal prone to geting itslef into trouble as a marketing ploy... thats where the line crosses...

i have a frined with a rescue female dog who when younger was a bait dog. when he got her she was full of holes...
now she has a perminent hole in both ears that are about evenly lined up and occasionally for fun he will put jewelry in, and snap a few shots...
the difference here being hes having fun with his pet, its not dangerous or painfull in any way and the jewelry is removed after the photosession...
by removing it afterwards no risk of it getting caught and.or torn and so i have no real issue with it...

this woman was doing it to make a quick buck and that annoys me more than anything!

I have one bio child who is 3 now, and I thought the same way. She can get her ears pierced when she decides.

As for the kittens, I think it's just cruel.

This is a thread about a kitten getting pierced ,not about infants or children with piercings.Maybe people should mind their own beeswax and keep their feelings/thoughts to themselves on that subject unless it is being posted in the appropriate section.

As for the kitten,I think the woman was being a bit of an idiot.She thought she had a good idea, it wasn't.She isn't the first nor will she be the last to do it.I am sure she figured that farmers tag their cattle in much of the same manner so it wouldn't be an issue considering that they don't get charged with animal cruelty despite the fact most farmers don't regularly check the cattle's ear to see if it is infected or not. I am sure she has learned her lesson since she can no longer run her business bc of her dumb decision.
