Tonya, sounds like Angel is hinting something.

Tammy, I feel like such a traitor, I can't even look George (your roo) in the eye!

I saw that but I don't think I will have any as I don't think my young rooster is doing his job. I sold the breeders at Erins.
Next year I will have 50% blue wheatens and 50% wheaten Marans.
Cree, Davis, Presley lines.
I can send a few eggs if you would like to try to hatch and see if fertile. The few we have eaten were, but I would not put money on it.
Next year I will have some very nice wheatens.
Check my website to see what the blues look like.
Sorry:)

Forgot Tammy I have not gotten to check out the email today is ball and chain day. Anv day 14 years married -19 years all together.
Boy do I feel old after posting that.

When folks were upset about no fall TSC swap, did you mention that we'll be having an even bigger one 15 min down the road? Maybe that would've lifted some spirits

Folks I spoke with were super excited about the farm swap and already knew where it was because they were there last month. ... so, you can't use a few people to base these decisions on. Everyone wants something different and it's just not possible to please everyone. I do believe these sales can be overdone, absolutely. For us, it's what we do. I could do another next weekend. For the buyer it's something they enjoy but, won't travel to every one if they can "just hit another next month." I think Gower's was a perfect example of overdoing it. Lack of advertising also played a part but, the increase in sellers shows me the word did get out somewhat.

ETA: A big congrats to Tonya and Tammy and their lovies.

Yes Erin, I did mention your Green Hill Swap to people, just about everyone I talked to in fact.

I also promoted the last one online and off in a big way. I promoted Gower's and TSC too. Just trying to help the chicken community around here come together... make it easy for folks to find us.

And you"re right... ya can't please everyone.

X2 on the congrats to Tonya and Tammy and their DH. Big congrats to Tonya on finally clearing out the nest!

Not to sound pushy, but do we have a date for the fall one at your place, Erin? I found the one up in Voorheesville, NY but it doesn't sound like much of a swap - more of a get together. All I know is that I am excited about going to your place again!

I think carol is getting what I'm getting from people.
They are wv people and are not npip so any " culls, extra roosters, and such" can not be sold at your place as they do not want to npip. Jonathan will not come out and test with out you becoming npip. As you know a lot of them don't want to do to they think the gov. Will be able to track them. What they don't understand is they already know where you live and that you are buying feed for chickens. There is always a paper trail that people forget about. Anyway the under no terms will get npip. So that means they can not go out of state to sell.
So a lot of them won't come due to that and they voice they would like it at ts like it has been so they can get free testing there on site. If I'm right or wrong Carol let me know. That is what I'm getting any.
I think next year if there is no gowers and there it two at a ts that is easy to get to more people will be happy.
Oh almost forgot the last thing is some think that there won't be enough traffic at the farm for a fall swap as people are mainly getting rid of stuff not really looking to buy.
I tell them it is possible but we will never know till we try it. It's one of those live and learn things.

This is a learning process, I agree. Live and Learn.

I understand Gower's was a bust. It would also be easier for me if the fall swap was in WV for two reasons. 1. I wouldn't have to have my birds AI tested. 2. I wouldn't have to worry if Jonathan would come back in the late fall to test my birds for show. Now the way I see it is: Both of those reasons are completely selfish.

I don't mean to offend anyone and I feel that this thread is getting mighty close to stepping on people's toes.

With that said I am going to keep the rest of my observations to myself

and say...we are ONE chicken community and I feel that the swaps in 2012 will be as beneficial as possible to both WV and MD.

As far as people not wanting to get NPIPed...don't get me started

I get it... and I thought 2 swaps in WV would work well for those folks that don't like to travel. If you would like to do more, that's fine.. we'll just be bumping heads if we plan close together and both swaps may suffer.

As for traffic at my house, no one thought there would be any for the first event either. But, I worked very hard posting flyers with maps, making big signs and making sure folks found their way and they did. I don't think it matters to have road frontage property because very few people drive by and see us and think, "I do need some chickens... I'll swing in" That may benefit the produce/flowers/etc. vendors but not the birds. I think most people prefer the farm one because it's an event and not a couple hours of chicken slinging... there is other stuff to do to make a day out of it... especially when they're traveling such a distance. Also, being backed by the poultry association encourages an entirely new crowd to the Maryland swap which I don't think we'll see at the TSC swaps. Those of us with show quality birds have more to gain.

We're so close... that it would be best to keep each other in mind when organizing. Squeezing in one more swap just seems too much to me. If you guys would like to do 3 next year.... let me know and I'll try to organize mine around it.
