For all those who own Great Pyrenees, what type collar do you prefer. I like martingale colars, but didn't know how'd they work with he thick coats. Is a buckle snap collar better?

we use a rolled leather collar with a metal buckle. the rolled leather has smooth edges and doesn't dig into her fur. They are available on line and at the larger pet stores.
we have two of the same in case one gets ratty and wet, i take it off so the leather can dry and her fur/neck doesn't chafe.

We had a buckle snap collar. He snapped it when he was 6 months old, and then figured out how to yank it just right to get it off whenever he wanted, so that was the end of that.

I would think the martingale kind would be a problem when the neck/chest grows in. It's not just fur on their bib, it's skin too.

We also have the rolled leather kind with a metal buckle. Durable, doesn't make too many split ends, he can't get it off easily. He CAN get it off, just not easily, so he mostly leaves it alone.

I found a very nice Spiked color, w/blue jems...hehe at Jeffers for $21 or so. It is made of thick, wide leather with a nice heavy d ring and buckle. The spikes help protect his neck, and give him that scary look, although he is a big baby to us. It only covers the back and sides, not underneath so it doesn't poke him. The emus were attracted for a little while to the "sparkles" but it's old news now. LOL
