Grain Fed Rant

So ,in this sort of world where we have less babies ,who is going to decide who can and can't have them ? will you be the one to tell your children if you have any that they can't have any of there own ?getting off topic ? It seems we have gone away from what the topic was about and that is grass versus grain feed beef .Feed Lots were set up because the consumer demanded more and the only way to do that was to start feed lots ,control what and when they get fed and watch there growth and work in getting them to market weight as fast as they can ,the majority demanded it .It's all about what the market wants ,just as in every thing else .Preferences are based on personal tastes and we all have the free will to decide what we like .Everything in this world that is sold is based on demands by the consumers and no business will ever tell you to buy less as will any government .

The market is not as simple as basic supply and demand and personal tastes. If it were, we would not have ad companies and lobby groups.

All an ad company can do is get you to buy something once. If you don't like it no ad can keep you buying it.
A lobby group can only get your product to market. If your product is crap no lobby group can keep it there. They cant get a law passed to make you keep buying any food.

Please no healthcare debate here.

Ads and marketing can do quite a bit more than that, including entire cultural shifts. Hence the immense sums of money that go into such endeavors.

I do believe the advertising will just change to make whatever it is you didn't like (grain:grass fed) seem healthier for you. Personally I won't buy something I didn't like, but there really are people who will keep using/eating things because they believe it's better for them. Marketing does have its way with most main stream people.
I posted the links in reference to the grass/grain environmental difference. Some day grain Better for planet, other say grazing is. I don't agree with either :) but it was interesting to look in to.
Thank you to the OP, for this post. I agree advertising 'grain feed' like its a good thing, is great marketing though.

Back to grain vs. grass fed beef, has anyone else noticed it is easier to digest one or the other? I was discussing this with a friend awhile back...I'm a big beef eater and while I usually buy at the grocery store, every now and then the family splits a grass fed carcass from a local farmer. I've noticed that I have far less, shall we say, "gastric distress" after eating the grass fed beef, unlike the grain fed. I'm not sure what that is about but I've found that it is common among the people I've talked to who regularly (no pun intended) eat grass fed beef.

The composition of fats differs between grain and grass fed beef. Since I am neither a nutritionist nor an organic chemist I don't understand all the omega this and thats. Just as beef differs, so does an individual's digestion. What is well tolerated by one person can cause great distress in another.

Actually, the world population problem is something that is going to solve itself one way or the other whether we as a species take any action to do anything about it or not. The earth simply cannot sustain the current rate of growth indefinitely. The world population has more than doubled just since I was in school. More than doubled. It took I don't know how many thousands of years to reach the number of people that were alive in the world in the fifties, and it has more than doubled just since then. You do the math.

You are right. The thread has gotten a little off topic. What got me started was a link to a page saying the solution to the grass vs. grain is veganism. It's a lttle more complicated than that.

I'll shut up now.
