Grain mites...

Any suggestions on a good substitute for Flock Raiser @aart?

Sort of fed up with Purina at this point.

Nope, sorry, have never had to go there.
Yeah, I was too, but the mites come with the grain.
Local feed mill was also covered in them,
but never brought any home in/on the scratch I buy from them.
I never dumped any of the infested FR, just treated it...
....and started staring at 'dust' to see if it moved.

I know the feeling of staring at dust now. I'm sure I look crazy but I can't help it.

Since the run on feed due to Covid I couldn’t Flock Raiser anywhere. I switched to the Nutrena brand and it seemed to work fine. It is also in pellet form which I like better. I’ll probably buy 1 or 2 more bags of it them I’ll be using DuMOR organic layer pellets. The buyer of my eggs wants organic and is willing to pay the difference in feed costs so that’s my only option here.

Oh wow! I haven't had trouble getting Flock Raiser, but in the back of my mind I wonder how much of that 50lbs is free loading grain mites. Every bag.

Feel like parking a damn chair right in the feed isle today and just staring at the bags long enough that I feel confident they're not infested.

Thinking about buying the Nutrena. I've never fed pellets though. Did your birds have any problems making the switch? Part of me worries they won't eat it.

I thought I would have a problem switching to pellets but they took to it OK. I gradually mixed it with the remainder of the old Purina I had 50/50 till it was gone, I think that helped.

The mill date made the feed a week old when I bought it.

Yeah, I'm definitely getting DE.

I'm ordering a bag of food grade DE today. But, until it arrives, this is my current setup with the new bag of FL sitting in a pan of non-food grade DE. I don't know if it will work, but at least it makes me feel better. Dust-watchers club UNITE!
