Grammar and spelling are a thing of the past!!!!

Yes, poor writing skills irritates me too.
It isn't our public education system that is at fault for poor writing skills. The fault lies with those participaing in the system and the lack of effort writers put into their written communication. This lack of effort is in our media, our local leaders and community members, families, and learners themselves (no matter what age).
I am a public educator--a 4th grade teacher in a low socio-economic area. I do not claim to be a perfect writer, but I do my very best to be a good example to my students. I spend 30-60 minutes DAILY directly teaching the wide variety of witing skills. In addition, we spend 10-20 minutes DAILY on spelling skills and strategies. Both writing and spelling programs we have are research-based and nationally recognized.
So... if you are participting in this forum, you need to use all the writing skills you have to communicate as clearly as you can. Unless we communicate clearly and precisely we can't receive the kind of information and advise we seek. Alternately, our idea/information may not be clearly communicated to our fellow forum members because we lack precision and accuracy.
Just think of all the great writers we would have if we cared about our writing skills as much as we care about our chickens!

I don't have the patience to homeschool but my girls do go to a private Catholic school. It is a sacrifice but one I am glad I make because they are leaps and bounds ahead of other kids their age!

Guys vrs guyses <- sounds like guises (disguises)
Kids vrs kidses (kidzes)
example the kidses father, instead of the correct spelling....the kids father
I hear this kind of speech from all over the place, from well educated to very young children.
I have asked why they use such bad grammar....everyone talks like that, it's normal....I was told that.

My younger cousin has a learning disability, and cannot spell very well anyway. But texting has just made it next to impossible for me to understand what she says. A typical conversation Via facebook goes like this:
Eleanor (my cousin): Heyyy
Tani: Hey Elly!
Elly: Howr u?
Tani: I'm doing very good, you?
Elly: Good. Skool is hard tho.
Tani: Well, it's almost over.
Elly: Yahh. What R U doin?
Tani: Oh, I'm talking with some friends on BYC.
Elly: Kewl.
It takes me so long to decipher what she is saying! And then all the TTYLs and WTHs and GTGs?!?!?
Those things drive me CRAZY!

The difference between her and I, is she goes to public school, while I am homeschooled (Huge difference!). She also always tries to say that public school is better, because then you have friends....... Wow (And I don't have friends!?).
I'm homeschooled, and I have to agree that it does help my spelling and punctuation, because I am WAY more focused in school, and pay attention to what I'm learning (Rather than passing notes).

I try to write, and to spell, the best that I can.
I owe that to myself, to all the teachers who tried so hard to educate
me, and most of all, I owe it to those who read the things I write.
