Well I have learned a lot about BYC today. This may not be a place for preppers, homesteaders or farmers. In my opinion for what its worth.

But here we are. So I have a question Do you raise your quail for meat or for pets?

I am very open and honest about how and why I raise Coturnix Quail. I give these birds the best life possible for 8 weeks with one bad moment before they go into the freezer. I still consider myself new at this way of living. Quail are new to me this year. But we have raised many chickens over the years for egg production and pest control.
One thing I do know is we all do this differently and that's OK.
One of my other threads was reported and locked. It happened when the sharing of pictures of roasted Quail were posted. Before I could get the recipe..... Poof they were gone.....

So if this one doesn't get deleted maybe we can post recipes below and come together over supper.

You need to make your poll allow multiple votes!

I chose to raise quail for meat and eggs because I don't like the commercial meat industry. I don't name them, I don't become attached to them, but they still have large enclosures for a relatively low number of birds and get treated as well as pets until their final day.

That makes mine kind of pets and kind of livestock.

Here's the link with my quail dishes. Several of them have the recipes in the description.

I changed it to 2 votes I think. I enjoy my birds but I don't get attached to any one of them as they will all be eaten eventually.

Oh wow! The little “bell” history says that three of my posts were deleted—roasted quail pics deleted! Definitely not cool!

Wow! I just received two nasty private messages from a “Project Manager” of BYC telling me not to use Zach’s name in this forum because his cage recommendations are for commercial sales and because she is friends with him in the real world. She then kicked me out of the private message/deleted it. (I will not share her name. Perhaps she will rethink what she sent me and try to fix it).

Wow, just wow! I was excited to be here. It’s starting to look like an unhealthy community.
