grandson out of icu update 1/30

right now his feed tube is thru his nose. if he has to be on it when he goes home he will get a port. he is on 3.5 trach uncuffed... it will have to be changed every 30 days unless it comes out and then she will have to change it. DD decided to take advantage of the transitional hospital(like rehab) so we have more time learning. she was cleaning it last night when he moved his head and his trach popped out. they were trying to teach her boy friend how to clean it. so it kind of freaked her out. but she is doing a good job and being so strong. I am so proud of her.

Tell her not to panic when it pops out, the hole won't close up instantly, but she will want to get it back in within a few minutes. I had a strap that went around my neck, plus a few stitches on each corner, so mine wasn't coming out unless they wanted it to. She won't hurt him cleaning it, he'll just be a little uncomfortable...I coughed a lot when anyone was messing with mine.
Does she have to suction the trache? I had mine removed before I left the hospital, but I was going to a nursing home anyway, I'm just curious how the at-home stuff works.

Yes she will have to suction it every hour. and she will have a home health nurse but not sure for how many hours a week. the doctor made the nurse remove the feed tube because he doesnt need it. they are working on his transfer to the other hospital. DD andher SO are doing good. they just jneed a little more time to get confidant at doing his care. he will be on monitors when he gets home. and we have to be sure who ever takes care of him isnt sick. which we were already doing. he still cant go out in public
