Granny's gone and done it again

Hi Neatstuff! :frow Happy Almost Turkey Day!
Almost turkey? :lau
Oh my! I wonder what one of those would taste like? When I was a kid, I used to lay out in the back and try to lure the turkey vultures to my carcass. :D They would swoop in really low for the initial inspection, I could hear their flight feathers rattling, but would never land. Guess I didn't smell bad enough! Fun bird fact: they are one on the few birds that have a sense of smell.
In my opinion the sence of smell is much common in birds much more than people think! Researchers in Israel found that the mostly nocturnal Eurasian stone-curlew find it way by smell!

The king vulture is definitely using is snell sense to find food

And from my experience every time that my chickens gets some meat leftovers the carion(hooded) crow shows up.

got out to stir the stock from the veggie cleanings only to discover I forgot to turn the stove on, then collected another 1/2 dozen "sky rasins" almost enough for a loaf of raisen bread

Then got a robo- call from Health Care. gov letting me know that big brother is watching and noticed I hadn't updated any of my information.

Is everyone good?
Mostly good. Danna's husband needs back surgery and has to wait until mid December for an appointment with the surgeon. We have a few new regulars too. Twist has been lonesome being the only male around!

December is approaching. All systems still go?
We moved it to January... I told him to go to Phoenix to visit his parents. They are 90 and 91 and his mom's been in the hospital twice in the last couple of weeks.

That's good of you, I know how excited you've been. You guys have time, but his folks may not. January is the beginning of a new year, good time for all things new. Excellent time to meet up with an old flame. On the other hand, Phoenix isn't too far from SA. 3 hr flight?

Neat birds Benny. Maybe advanced sense of smell is a better way of saying it. They did a series of studies here, hiding rotting carcasses from view and turkey vultures were the only birds that ever showed up for dinner. Lots of other critters, but no other birds until pieces of the carcass came into view. Was a long time ago though, so new findings are exciting.
