And lets face it  you just can't beat the flavor of an old hen when it comes to making stock or chicken and dumplings.  :drool

I think it's more honest and maybe even caring to give your birds the best care you can and then when they are past it  to use them to nourish family and friends  rather then to just waste the animal by throwing or burying it    At least farm type animals.   NOT dogs or cats.    Also more humane then just letting then die of old age and the pain and decline that old birds go thru.

I agree, but I guess some people are just to close minded to understand this. :rolleyes:
 
There were 7 of us last night for dinner and I started with 10 # of taters before adding the HOT cream and butter when mashing them, And I ended up with less then 8 cups of left overs

Not many meatballs either, lots of jello salad and desert but that is good.

I always plan on extra taters as I like them warmed up in the micro with ranch dressing, or save and use as a thickener when making a hearty soup like tater or split pea and ham.
