It used to be our old playhouse. And ended up being more expensive than my original plan.

Yep, love when that happens. My big coop ended up costing about $1k, and we used tons of stuff just lying around.

1k! I would have just thrown my hands up.

I had everything counted for at the beginning. The coop would have been bigger and cheaper. I needed this many of this and that and it'd cost such and such. I had a whole list. And that was BEFORE the tree house idea was pushed at me. And cost me almost 2 paychecks. And things were tweaked when I was gone.

That's so frustrating! Yes, that had happened to me before. So I oversaw every minute of the big coop to make sure it was exactly everything I wanted. It's 18 ft across and I think 12 ft deep. The volunteers set the studs every 12? 18? inches, which is where a lot of the costs came from. And also all the hardware cloth. We already had tin for roofing, and we used pallets for all the siding.

I had to get rid of some of my chickens because it was too small for 10 and they were being jerks to the others. I wasn't planning on having all 10 anyway but they were hardy little brats. I shouldn't have bought chicks before I started to build a coop.

We run a summer camp, so it's the camp's coop. Built for tourists and education. All the windows and nests are child height, doors are actually wide enough to accommodate wheel chairs. It's a dream come true!
